Man tries to rob people in line for LeBron James sneakers, is shot and killed

From Marylynn Ryan, CNN

Atlanta (CNN) -- A man, who tried to rob a group of people waiting in line to buy the new $180 LeBron James sneakers, was shot and killed when one of the customers pulled out a gun, Atlanta police said.

The incident took place before dawn Saturday outside a shoe store in Atlanta's Little Five Points area.

The group was waiting for the store to open for the day so they could buy the LeBron X Denim on its first day of release.

Police said the man approached the group with a gun in hand and tried to rob them.

One of the men in the group took out his own handgun and fired, said Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/06/19/stab-walk-of-fame/2439811/

Police say they found the 23-year-old woman bleeding from multiple stab wounds near busy Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Homicide detectives say the woman and a friend were walking in the tourist-packed area where the three suspects were holding signs and panhandling.

They took cellphone photos of the men. Police say that caused a dispute, and the victim was stabbed in the torso.

$180 is an insane amount to pay for sneakers; standing in line to pay $180 for sneakers is perhaps insaner, but neither is deserving of being robbed at gunpoint and possibly shot by some dick. It's a shame someone had to be shot, but at least it was the robber, and not a shoe-mad line-stander.

I understand there is a considerable collectors market for this type of 'name' shoe; perhaps some were looking to make an investment by buying them and reselling them later ... ? Never got the whole So-and-So Shoe thing, but I'm tragically unhip.
