From Marylynn Ryan, CNN
Atlanta (CNN) -- A man, who tried to rob a group of people waiting in line to buy the new $180 LeBron James sneakers, was shot and killed when one of the customers pulled out a gun, Atlanta police said.
The incident took place before dawn Saturday outside a shoe store in Atlanta's Little Five Points area.
The group was waiting for the store to open for the day so they could buy the LeBron X Denim on its first day of release.
Police said the man approached the group with a gun in hand and tried to rob them.
One of the men in the group took out his own handgun and fired, said Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos.

the only thing I'm celebrating here is the fact that no innocents were injured or killed, just the perp that tried to rob people with a gun.

(40 posts)The guy with the gun would then be on camera shooting him! Why would a person shoot someone if they know they are being filmed, huh?
More gun-nuttery.

But him stealing or breaking the camera wouldn't do him any good.
Also, I might shoot back. I do have my carry permit.

Or criminals might adapt, and use masks more often, as they have with convenience store robberies with the proliferation of security cameras.

(14,040 posts)Police say they found the 23-year-old woman bleeding from multiple stab wounds near busy Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Homicide detectives say the woman and a friend were walking in the tourist-packed area where the three suspects were holding signs and panhandling.
They took cellphone photos of the men. Police say that caused a dispute, and the victim was stabbed in the torso.

(89,250 posts)there usually is when there are long lines like this that someone should never have been able to go around with a gun stealing things.

and they don't have their weapons drawn out. but usually they are in some security uniform and probably help in preventing people from causing problems.
X_Digger
(18,585 posts)Seriously? You want armed security anytime there's a line for anything?
Let me guess, it's the shoe store's fault for not having armed security now?

JI7
(89,250 posts)but it's just something i noticed most stores do if there is expected to be larger than usual crowds, especially with lines forming . and for people to buy some latest item, or some special sale .

(21,691 posts)$180 is an insane amount to pay for sneakers; standing in line to pay $180 for sneakers is perhaps insaner, but neither is deserving of being robbed at gunpoint and possibly shot by some dick. It's a shame someone had to be shot, but at least it was the robber, and not a shoe-mad line-stander.
I understand there is a considerable collectors market for this type of 'name' shoe; perhaps some were looking to make an investment by buying them and reselling them later ... ? Never got the whole So-and-So Shoe thing, but I'm tragically unhip.
