If you ever wonderedwhether the conservative base of the Republican congressional monkeyhouse gives a damn about anyone else, the fact that they're planning to slow-play their own constituents on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act ought to settle your mind for you handsomely.
Some Republicans indicated to The Hill they will not assist constituents in navigating the law and obtaining benefits. Others said they would tell people to call the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). "Given that we come from Kansas, it's much easier to say, 'Call your former governor,'" said Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R), referring to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. "You say, 'She's the one. She's responsible. She was your governor, elected twice, and now you reelected the president, but he picked her.'" Huelskamp said. "We know how to forward a phone call," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). "I have two dedicated staff who deal with nothing, but ObamaCare and immigration problems," he added. "I'm sure there will be an uptick in that, but all we can do is pass them back to the Obama administration. The ball's in their court. They're responsible for it."
Actually, Jason, you constitutional conservative you, we're all "responsible" for it because it's the freaking law, whether you like it or not. It passed the House. It passed the Senate. The president signed it. The Supreme Court upheld it. Four strikes and you're out, dipwad. This isn't about the budget, or about principles. This is about winning. This is about the playing the long game at the expense of your most vulnerable constituents. This is about the fact that the driving element of the current Republican party has so thoroughly imbibed the principles of nullification that members of Congress now feel free to act upon those principles without even having the decency to secede. I hope some old lady in Kansas gets sick and dies because Tim Huelskamp has decided to be a clever dick. I'm sorry, but I truly do. I hope the same thing happens in Jason Chaffetz's district, so he can crack wise with Sean Hannity about how it's really the president's fault. This is indecent. This is inhumane. This is your Republican congressional caucus in 2013. And both of these clowns, who are on the public record now as saying they will make the lives of their constituents more difficult, will be re-elected. Easily.

(36,745 posts)I've gone there frequently to cut through the lies and BS about Obamacare.
For instance, it will pretty much kill off COBRA coverage. Thank the cloud beings!
An unemployed person should I think now have a better chance at qualifying for low cost coverage or Medicaid.

(36,060 posts)The only way I can imagine Chaffetz and Huelskamp's constituents voting these guys back in is that their constituents have been made to believe that they are voting for a more important, long term cause, and that their suffering is worth it. Some people just hate what they consider the 'weakening' or 'degeneracy' of a nation through social services. That is an intergenerational idea. That these two keep staff to simply stir up hatred for immigration reform (i.e., immigrants) and Obamacare (i.e., Obama) shows how committed they are to fomenting the politics of spite.
