We laugh, but this moronic and cruel-hearted thinking is standard among Republicans and libertarians when it comes to economic issues . . . and to a lesser extent, some centrist Democrats. It's certainly how most people with any kind of power believe.

that any economic controls are the first step to the Gulag
they've shifted a little to expand their appeal beyond Cold Warriors, saying the Great Society *caused* Vietnam, calling it the "welfare-warfare state" or summat, and that Iraq was tied to the 00s overregulation that caused the '08 crash...

The Invisible Hand has been the driving force behind NAFTA, all to other "Free Trade" Treaties,
an is the justification our President is using for "NAFTA on Steroids".

You have to go way out on the Fringe Left Wing to find ANY Democrat willing to blaspheme the Giant Invisible Hand.
The last Democrat to question the existence of The Hand in public was Dennis Kucinich,
and you know what happened to him. He was excommunicated and exiled from the new Church of The Giant Invisible Hand.

This new religion demands absolute Blind Faith Devotion to an invisible Deity for which
no concrete evidence exists.
In fact, all real world evidence contradicts the existence of this new deity, yet our leadership uses this deity to justify Economic Policy that negatively affects Billions of people,
but enhances the fortunes of the privileged handful who sit on the gilded thrones of the 1%.

The Graven Image on the altar
of the Church of the Giant Invisible Hand.

Sorry, Virginia,
but there is NO Invisible Hand,
and no such thing as "Free Trade" or "Free Markets".
Like other religions with invisible deities,
this new religion is a SCAM invented by The RICH to get more money for themselves,
and sold to the gullible by Smooth Talking Con Men.

. . . for what should be normal Democratic values?

This is what happens when nearly every politician no matter what party, every business leader, every person who has the power to make a difference in this country . . . pays homage to the most counterproductive and scorched-earth brand of economics unwillingly thrusted on the American people. Since 1981, we've been paying the price of Reaganomics; a loser amalgam of Ayn Rand selfishness, free movement of capital and labor, reverse-Robin Hood wealth transfer, labor-rights squashing and social Darwinism.

Like all scam-based religions, it relies on the people at the top of the pyramid doing the thinking for the useful idiots at the bottom that assembled it.

There was a sign recently at another thread that said "Capitalism Equals Freedom". Whoever told that guy such a lie isn't his friend. A cab driver in France is freer than any non-multi-millionaire American citizen will ever be.

Otherwise, we would all have to oppose them and speak out against him for hiring them in our name.

At least we know that Obama is going after Apple's tax-dodgers in all of his press conferences.

to provide us with a perspective because the media has failed us, UTTERLY!

I hope everyone is working to point out the level of failure that the US media has become. Make them ashamed to show their faces. Embarrass them for their horrible, slanted, inept coverage of the issues.
