I see two big (non-environmental) problems.

1) Decreasing wages and general standard of living for ordinary people. Rising inequality and rising class stratification, which is bone-jarring five-alarm what-the-fuck the living will envy the dead stuff because the trend hasn't been in this direction probably since the revolutions of 1848... and certainly no latter (in America) than 1932.

2) The surveillance state, and private surveillance economy.

economies will crumble and urbanization will increase (from those who cannot live with a devastated agricultural system). People will be forced into a decaying, electronic world facing starvation from crop failure and poverty. Dissidents will increase and the machine will use all tools to stop domestic revolt. The environment will create pressures that will lead governments to tyranny over their people to preserve order during the decline. Its a good thing we will have PRISM then, eh?

When the conditions create a world that encourages me to be an active dissident, I sure as hell don't want something in place that can identify me to potentially be one in such a case.
