Pelosi booed at Netroots while defending espionage charges against Snowden
By Arturo Garcia * Raw Story
Saturday, June 22, 2013 20:01 EDT

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) drew boos and heckling from members of the crowd at a progressive conference on Saturday while defending President Barack Obama’s administration and the recently-discovered surveillance policies by the National Security Agency (NSA).

About 47 minutes into Pelosi’s speech at Netroots in San Jose, California, a growing commotion can be heard coming from the audience. While moderator and MSNBC contributor Zerlina Maxwell urged the audience to submit questions online instead of shouting, Pelosi continued, saying, “I think it’s really important to subject all of this to the transparent and harshest scrutiny, to say, ‘We want a balance between privacy and security.’”

At that point, a man identified by Politico as 57-year-old Marc Perkel can be heard shouting, “It’s not a balance. It’s not constitutional! No more secret laws!”

as he reveals in this blog post: http://marc.perkel.com/2004/06/12/should-blacks-thank-america-for-ending-slavery/

Here's the DU2 post that led to his banning:

Should Black People Thank America for ending Slavery?

I want to take the opposite position from those who think that America should apologise to Black people for slavery. Lets look at reality here.

America wasn't the ones who started enslaving blacks. They usually bought black slaves from other blacks in Africa where slavery still exists.

The decendents of the slaves in America are generally far better off that the decendants of those who were not brought to America. Blacks in America should be thankful for their own personal sake that their ancestors were brought over here.

I just don't think he's hero material, and this is the second time I've seen his name mentioned here today.

He's quite an oddball, to say the least, if you check out his extremely numerous websites. He also gave an eye-opening interview to The Week In Blackness which hasn't been published yet.

I'd imagine most of the rest of NN13 don't have similar histories, though.

blindly defend a traitor that you didn't care about what the person you were cheering on is. Even on her worst day, Nancy Pelosi stands eons above both her critics here on do and the asshole that attempted to shout her out at Netroots. Maybe people here on DU should fucking stop to think about who they give aid and comfort to, some of those people don't give a shit about your supposed progressivism.

I doubt it, but I do what I can to be reasonable and fair, and accordingly
try to refrain from generating deliberately insulting commentary; but
admittedly, I don't always succeed either.

I go back and forth on this issue and enjoy well-informed viewpoints from both sides.

Perkel didn't just shout, he started a commotion and sounded like he was trying to incite a riot. I was about 10 tables away and I could hear him yelling from several yards away.

It wasn't an organized protest where the rest of us had democratically decided whether to participate in his decision. I respect free speech, but this wasn't a public event. It was a conference.

No matter which side of the issue you are on, he was not a good advocate for Snowden, because Pelosi was cool and kept upbeat and made Perkel look an asshole. And if he's a former Freeper, I guess that goes a long way to explain why.

Oops, just saw the rest of the entry that Denzil DC linked up in his post where Perkel identifies himself. Need more coffee.

...The Nancy Pelosi who couldn't shovel Hundreds of Billions of Dollars to the crooks on Wall Street fast enough?

....The Nancy Pelosi who thinks that the Bush War Criminals should skate free?

....THAT Nancy Pelosi stands before NetRoots and insists that Snowden is the one hurting our country and should be punished?

She is lucky to get out of there with just a few Boos.

away from a meltdown that would have made the Great Depression look like child's play. Pelosi took a action that she likely hated taking, but which real leaders sometime find themselves having to take.

It was a cleverly planned Heist perfectly timed to hit between administrations giving Plausible Deniability to both Political Parties.

There are valid opposing opinions that our system could have handled it in the same way that the S&L Crisis was handled.
If the Wall Street Banks had been allowed to fail, as our Free market System dictates,
then the INVESTORS would have had to pay their gambling losses,
not the American Tax Payers.

Wall Street Investment Banking Stocks were HOT in 2006 - 2007.
I wonder how much Pelosi's (and every other member of Congress & The Senate) Quarterly Profits would have suffered if she had been forced to pony up her Gambling Losses.

All the nonsense about Airlines not being able to get gas is purely Shock Doctrine Scare Tactics, which I see you bought Lock, Stock, and Barrel
proving that PT Barnum was correct.

Pelosi & her Bi-Partisan friends claimed to have saved "The Economy",
but that is not true. The Economy is MUCH more than just Wall Street,
but Wall Street IS "The Economy" for the 1%,
proving once again that there ARE Two Americas,
and our representatives in Washington live in the America that doesn't have to pay for their Gambling Losses.
Paying their debts is for the SUCKERS in the 99%.
