Juanita Jean smacks Gohmert about his claim that people on food stamps by king crab legs:

Louie! Dammit. There are no welfare Cadillacs.

Louie Gohmert comes down on the side of cutting SNAP funds because he has heard something really important.

The Texas congressman complained that Democrats had portrayed Republicans as evil because they supported a measure to cut nearly 2 million low-income people off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which would mainly impact working families with children.

On the other hand, Gohmert said, poor people were using food stamps to buy food that other Americans could not afford. He claimed his “broken-hearted” constituents had repeatedly told him they had seen people use food stamps to buy king crab legs.

First off, there is no repeatedly. You live in Tyler, Texas. The Piggly Wiggly in Tyler, Texas, does not carry king crab legs and even if they did, they would probably not be safe to eat. Nobody in their right mind would buy king crab legs at the Tyler Texas Piggly Wiggly twice.

Second off, your constituents would not be “broked-hearted” if they did in fact see something like that. They would be blazing mad and break at least six of the ten commandments right there on the spot. Broken-hearted, my sweet patootie. Louie, you can go to hell for lying the same as you can for stealing.

Third off, you have king crab legs in Tyler but you don’t have cell phone cameras?

Fourth off, shut the hell up. All that corporate welfare that you just love buys yachts for CEO’s and stockholders while the rest of us can barely afford the gas to get to Piggly Wiggly.

You’re a jerk, Louie.

Between Louie Gohmert and Sen Cur Dog (Ted Cruz), people think TX is wall-to-wall racist hate-mongers and Tparty-Taliban. Well it's not. and we're going to turn TX blue sooner, than later.

And meditate on this. The brown or black or gay man or woman, who will become Gov of Texas or POTUS has already been born. And that person will have a long history of fighting for equality and justice.

inhabiting this board who miss no opportunity to degrade all the residents of a particular state or region - willing to concede defeat by hoping that the miniscule segment of neoconfederates in said state or region achieve their secessionist goals. Juanita Jean's blog is an upraised middle finger to those chauvinistic elitists, who need to clean up their own backyards before casting aspersions on other states or regions.

They express those who vote in gerrymandered districts and have maintained a majority. You address Texas as if 100% of its people all agree.
Thanks for ignoring any and all of those who are working for equality for all. Your nonsupport is noted.
As demographics change, these are groups will try to swing new voters toward equality.

in their States taking up 'gay rights' in some future and proclaiming that Texas will elect one of us. That is some stiff wanking out of a place that in reality evicts us and fires us.
My nonsupport? See,that is the hypocritical patronization crap again.
All the other poster was asked was to not pretend things are good for GLBT people in Texas just to make yourselves feel good. Admit how Texas is. Change that. Sitting around yelling when you are reminded that Texas discriminates against the very people that poster was saying Texas would elect is part of why Texas remains as it remains, anti gay to the core, filled with folks who don't really care to change that when they can just exploit us rhetorically while retaining the bigotry.
Thanks for the laws you make in Texas that allow YOUR community to fire my community at will, to discriminate against us in housing as well. Now you were saying YOUR community is mistreated? Seriously? We owe you?

This is a discussion board so it's hard to do anything here but post ideas and opinions.

I for one do not sit around and let them do anything. I have fought for years for equality and will continue to do so. Uncontested is wrong.

As for any state being "filled" with any type of voter based on an issue is wrong. Most elections have a distinct group who vote with those who represent equality.

You act as if it is as easy as pie to change ideas that have been entrenched by custom, heritage and religion. If it was easy it would have been done.

And who is YOUR and MY? I am gay and belong to that community by birth. I live in another community that is resistant to my orientation in several ways. Not all in this other group are unwelcoming. I have made many friends who do want change.

The trick is to meld these two groups so that one is not set apart by laws and manners from others.

You are demeaning the subgroup of people who are working for LGBT rights by lumping them in with the others who are resistant. They aren't all gay.

As far as owing someone, you aren't obligated to do anything to help. It would be nice to think that those in the LGBT community at large would reach out to others with at least a kind word.

Nonsupport is not the correct term. It's open hostility to anyone who tries to tell you that the state is not made up of mostly regressive people.

It's evident what the laws are and it's just as evident that there are many who oppose them. Building that group to a majority requires more than hectoring and we have no magic wand.

And I am not yelling. If I was yelling, I WOULD HAVE TYPED LIKE THIS.

than wallow in the faith talk. Why exploit a community you currently discriminate against by claiming 'the gay man who will be governor is already born!' and such?
I could do without the self indulgent language. I would like to see some honesty. You all can not admit that your laws are vicious, but you are willing to declare you have already elected a gay governor in your minds.
Could you not just wait to congratulate yourselves until you stop the worst of the discrimination?
That's all I ask. Don't reward yourselves for that which is as yet undone. If you guys were more up front about the reality perhaps others would not have to make note of the facts?

Why do you keep talking to me and others as if we are actively working for teabaggers? Believe me we know first hand about the damage laws can do. We know from reality.

The faith talk and indulgent self congrats, as you put it, are ways to try to bolster ourselves. We get blasted from everywhere, so trying to be upbeat is a must. These are small but necessary rewards. What are we supposed to do? Keep our mouths shut and stay in the dark until perfection is attained?

It makes a difference to us to acknowledge even tiny steps. It also makes a difference to those who are listening and watching. You can't gather people to your side by only pointing out the bad. The nonprogress you seem to see is really a long battle with setbacks and forward moves.

We know all too well that much has to be done. Are we required to wear sackcloth and ashes in public?

I repeat from before. The reaction you get is in direct relation to everyone being talked to or about as if we are all redass nutjobs voting for horrible policies.

Being a progressive in TX and other areas means having fought and still fighting long hard battles. Some have done it or over 40 years.

I give up. Some people will never see anybody in any of the red states as anything but useless mooks who help the other side. I am not going to fight that battle anymore. I'll use my energy to concentrate on changing all those things you want changed yesterday.
