The Paula Deen situation/saga is at the heart of the current state of affairs when it comes to the

She speaks dreamily almost yearningly about the days of old.

The days when whiteness was privilege and obeying that privilege was absolute law. This woman as a child beat a black child's blistered hands with a bat/stick, just to see the blisters pop.

On the one hand I can understand her curiosity. What the fuck did she and her ilk know about blisters? That is blisters from hard work.

And yet the black mother who defended her child was sent to jail. Just for defending her poor, blistered child.

Now they see that autonomy dying right before their very eyes.

This is why we are seeing such a huge, massive freak out in that demographic.

So its natural the Southern Belle, Deen was so involved in it. She wanted all black servers at her sons wedding? Wow! This shows why the restaurant industry still only pays $2 an hour making the "slaves" depend on tips for survival. Tipping is a way of saying "you did a good job boy, here's some pocket change for ya boy"

but I think waiters are paid a much better hourly, not that minimum wage is all that great here either, but I hear the States has a horrendously low hourly wage and expect tips to cover a basic wage for the servers.

I heard that one of the traits of the "ugly American" in Europe is OVER-tipping where tipping isnt required. It is a way of saying to the natives, "I'm a filthy rich American and youre a poor as dirt European, so heres some pocket change chump".

Even grew up not all that far from where she did and I'm not remotely close to freaking out.

I never wanted control in the first place, it's really just a pain in the tuckus if you're not a control freak.
