Hey, look on the bright side, nothing like being 18 again.

(26,060 posts)There was no context but I did read it. So? Supreme Court justices can do DECADES worth of damage - I'm not leaving that in the hands of the party that extends their hands to the palins, limbaughs and cruzs of the world.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)I don't.
It is that simple. To be 18 again and just vote to stay in practice cause it don't matter.
So tell me oh wise one...how will the next free trade agreement work for the former middle class? These are the issues we are talking about where both party elites agree on.
Sorry...the illusion is dead.

(26,060 posts)feel free to knock yourself out in your self righteousness. There are 3 decisions coming out next week - DOMA, voting rights and affirmative action. If you don't think it matters who those 9 justices are, you are incredibly naive. But like I said, if you're a one issue voter, go ahead and cut off your nose.

For a progressive site to have such cynicism does not bode well in my view

So it is with those whose love of the Executive is so pure, total, and all -encompassing, they can brook no discussion of a leader's policies.

(82,383 posts)Make sure Congress stays Republican so they can have another 2 years.
If they fail, then the laws the POTUS and Dem Congress pass will simply be not good enough.

(45,319 posts)Oh, they are all endorsing each other early and trying to pull off a presumptive close on the nominations but they will not be nominated, that Third Way bullshit is bullshit and smells like it, time for all who purvey it to be sent home. But it's hard, don't you think?
I mean, how is your ironic version distinguishable from the current DU atmosphere, where if you have a problem with longstanding US government policies of war, imperialism, surveillance, authoritarianism, casually murdering brown people around the world, etc., you are promptly told you're a .... racist!

(10,624 posts)Lots of people are accusing others of being anti-Obama, but that isn't it at all.
What we are, is anti-austerity, anti-chained CPI, anti-surveillance, anti-NDAA, anti-Patriot Act, anti-drone, anti-Gitmo, anti-Third-Way bullshit.
And believe you me, *that* agenda will very much be on the ballot in 2016.

(14,524 posts)What "clever people" such as yourself, aren't quite "clever" enough to comprehend, is that the price for this Corporate Lackey/Police State Shill act, will be paid for by the Democratic Party, in general. The beatdown coming in 2014 and 2016, will make 2010 look like a buffjob.
WTG, Personality Adoration Society, you've managed to resurrect The Republican Party from the grave.
Yee haw.

(92,404 posts)get much support from women, Hispanics, minorities, and even many independents since they have moved so far right
Regardless, if the Democrats want more progressive leadership, they need to run candidates to challenge those that do not represent progressive views.
In Texas their are boots on the ground to try to take back some of those seats. While the republicans are busy exposing their Hispanic racism, the demographic is turning in Texas that will put that position as a losing one

(14,524 posts)I've heard it all before, including during the runup to the 2010 big Democratic "victory."
Many, will not be played again. I am among that number. I will vote my principles for however long I am still breathing, never again will someones party affiliation qualify them as "the only choice." Ever.
I am not alone.
still_one
(92,404 posts)The reason we didn't was because of the demographic I just referred to
In fact the republicans are even moving further to the right in those positions
99Forever
(14,524 posts)... and don't see that as relevant. What I do see as relevant, is that this is the same game the lying liars have played in the last 3 elections. Treating people as stupid, isn't exactly a brilliant strategy. The Dems will get their asses handed to them in 2014 and 2016, that much is a given.
Worst of all, it DIDN'T have to be this way.

(4,062 posts)The DLC candidate sees a man carrying a watermelon while riding a car on his way home. He asks the driver to stop the car and approaches the man. He tells him that the watermelon is looking nice and asks him to sell it to him. The man replies "Sure, pick the one you want" and the DLC candidate asks "How can I pick? There is only one". The man replies "Just how we elected you."
