is that you can't elect these Right-Wing nut-jobs by getting just the votes of old white men. There have to be some minorities and some women voting for them as well. And some of the nut-jobs are women as well. Fruit cakes like Bachman and Palin.

I just don't get it.

You cannot inform someone whose mind is closed to any ideas other than those he or she already believe to be true.
You cannot reason with someone so fearful of different points of view that they condemn them out of hand.
You can lead a horse to water but it won't drink if it believes the water is poisoned.

Rupert Murdoch and Karl Rove have built empires on their ability to frighten people into believing Black is White.

K&R

And now the Republicans in DC are going to try (and may succeed) in passing it in the House? It's RAPE, if you ask me. Yes, we should criticize and put those who support the abusive procedure to shame, but we all know PO would never sign it.

Plus you haven't been nearly as subservient to men lately as the Good Book says you ought to be.

I hope this tag isn't needed, but here it is anyway. Honestly, I'm afraid there's a significant subset of Republican voters that actually think this way.

Abuse is exactly what this is.

We can only hope that this is another step in the process of revealing to all Americans just how very VILE the fundy fanatics really are. Let them and all their vile putrid beliefs and desires be fully exposed, so they can at long last be permanently defeated (which they richly deserve, and which is long overdue).

The Earth must be weeping...because her daughters have done absolutely NOTHING to deserve this abysmal treatment.

I am so very glad that I am beyond child-bearing age.

Somehow, we must fight for the rights of the women who can be harmed by this kind of crap.

For me, it was a cancer screening, but the procedure and prep for it are the same. It's not quick and it's not easy.

First you have to make an appt at a specialist who has the right equipment if your gyno does not. Then, one hour and 15 minutes before your appt, you have to drink 32 ounces of water and finish it one hour before your appt. You are not allowed to pee until well into the exam. So you're driving, parking, checking in, and sitting in the waiting room, while trying so hard not to wet yourself. The first time I had this screening, I had to hold it an extra 30+ minutes while waiting for my name to be called.

Eventually you're put in the exam room and told to take off your clothes and put on a drape. Then the technician pours cold jelly on your belly and rubs that probe thing (like the one you pictured) all over you, stopping to take pictures about every 30 seconds. My gosh. You just hope you can hold it.

Then s/he puts that thing inside your thang and moves it left, right, up, down, repeat, again stopping to take pictures. So far you've been there a good 15 minutes, but the "urge" makes it feel like forever.

Finally, mercifully, the technician lets you go to the bathroom. Then back you go up on the exam table and s/he probes you all over again. The exam doesn't hurt, but it's no picnic either. You don't feel relieved until you're out of there.

For a cancer test, it's not horrible, even if it's physically distressing. You hate the test but at least nobody forced you to have it. You (might) choose do it because your health could depend on it. (The operative word here is "choose.&quot

But to go through all that for no medical purpose is, IMHO, just crazy. It's a huge waste of time and resources. We're talking at least a couple hours away from work, and these tests are not cheap! And to do it only because of some LAW that some politicians in Washington cooked up would feel to me like an absolute violation. It's an invasion of your body. (It is your body, right?) It's also an assault on your autonomy and your privacy and your emotional wellbeing.

So your gyno, to avoid breaking the law, would have to tell the government what you're doing with your pregnant body. How else could the government force you to endure that test?

Why don't those pols just come out and say getting knocked up makes you government property? You're no longer an adult--you're a pregnancy! Not that they give a damn about your baby or how it makes it to term. They just want you to pay, I suspect, for the shame you deserve for being a sexually active woman.

Well I say NO! NO NO NO NO NO! The whole thing is just freaking wrong! I've been there, done that, so I know it is a horrible thing to do to a woman if it's against her will.

I will attempt to copy and paste so I can quote you directly, and include my commentary:

It's an invasion of your body. (It is your body, right?) It's also an assault on your autonomy and your privacy and your emotional wellbeing." Exactly...that is what they are aiming to do: assault our bodies, assault our privacy, and assault our emotional well-being. That is precisely what their aim.

Why don't those pols just come out and say getting knocked up makes you government property? You're no longer an adult--you're a pregnancy! Not that they give a damn about your baby or how it makes it to term. They just want you to pay, I suspect, for the shame you deserve for being a sexually active woman."

Again, exactly! That IS their aim: to make any pregnant or possibly pregnant woman (right wing fundy fanatic) government property. Notice that government interference is A-O.K. as long as it involves forcing other people to goose-step to their religious beliefs. It is ALL ABOUT COERCEION, not the (so-called) right-to-life vs. the right to choose. The entire issue has NOTHING to do with the (so-called) sanctity of life. The issue is that some people believe that they are religiously superior to everyone else, and therefore have the divine right to dictate to other people, even if we believe differently than they do.

"Not that they give a damn about your baby...", again, absolutely right! They only pretend to care about fetuses because they can use it as a bludgeon to control the lives, bodies, and destinies of women. The fetus is a pretext, nothing more.

And the truest line you wrote: "They just want you to pay,...for the shame you deserve for being a sexually active woman." That's it. Bottom line: this is about woman-hating, it is an effort to gain dictatorial power over the female (majority!) population, it is hatred of any sexuality that isn't shame-based and doesn't result in a pregnancy. And, further, it is about creating more cannon fodder for their wars (where are these people who are shouting about the sanctity of life now?), and more low-wage (slave) labor for the wealthy. I wish the women who support these pieces of excrement would notice that the people who are promoting these vile legal restrictions only use the social issues as a red herring, to garner more votes for politicians who only serve people who are so wealthy that sucking up every bit of wealth in the world would not satisfy them.

And no one in the corporate owned bile-spewing media ever asks, "what about the quality of life for the living woman, why does her life and welfare not matter at all?"

tblue! Great post.
