I don't ask you to feel sorry for such people, only to acknowledge that the statement is true.

(20,564 posts)i'm sorry, i don't get the point of posting this particular comment at this time
look, i agree that she didn't manage her personal life particularly well, but i know tons and tons of addicts, many of whom died well before age 48-- for all you know,
fame & fortune may have doubled her lifespan, she may have suicided on drugs in her twenties if she had never had public eyes on her
you don't know and i don't know so what is the point of crapping on her memory now? and crapping on those who contributed to giving her fame & fortune because they loved her voice?
too many talented people die before their time and just as many die because they were NEVER known or cared about, probably more die because they had no fame or caring from the public to keep them going...the fans did not kill whitney houston, her fame & fortune didn't kill her, what happened to her has deep roots in human personality that we haven't yet figured out how to solve
you do realize that unknown drug addicts/ alcoholics drop dead every day, without any fame or fortune to drag them down at all? i'm personally aware of several people who died too young because they had NO fame, they felt unacknowledged and of no value
fame or fortune, no fame or fortune -- that is not the cause of death here -- the disease of addiction and/or depression is a killer AND IT HITS FAMOUS AND UNKNOWN ALIKE
you did not kill whitney if you were a fan and gave her fame, i don't accept that, if she couldn't "handle" fame god knows she couldn't have handled obscurity, which is far more cruel

(45,851 posts)Fame, fortune and celebrity may contribute to someone's swan song sometimes but they are by no means necessary for a screwed up life.

(10,724 posts)...something to think about. I'm the same age as Whitney Houston and I did enjoy her music years ago, but my dabbling with drugs and addictions was brief and minor, and left few marks.
RIP, along with far too many of my generation.
