I really think it is as simple as that.

I laugh when I hear them say "but the world is different now! There's EVIL people that want to do us harm!"

When was that NOT the case? Is this a 21st century phenomenon? That some people want to harm other people? Hah! Try again.

And we've had phones and letters for many, many years and didn't feel the government should be able to indiscriminately sweep them all up, because we knew we had the protection of the 4th Amendment.

What changed?

Technology. That's all. So, it's all just because they CAN. That is why they do it.

is different now. I'm not talking about 9/11 either.

The constitution needed to be amended a few times to keep up with the times. It was amended a few times to maintain civil rights for black people, the voting thing being only male landowners, etc. Currently we want to include gay civil rights in there as well.

With all the technology I think changes are going to happen. Searches aren't just your car anymore. So much can be done with a touch of a button, millions of dollars can be moved, files deleted, etc. I don't know the answer or how it can be done, but we're going to have to keep up with the times.

Let me be clear, I'm not advocated peoples privacy be violated, but to think that we can continue the way we are as technology speeds along is wrong, imo.

I don't know how to keep up, but we're going to have to figure out how. Too much can be done with the push of a button.
