In Unanimous Vote, Russia Passes Bill Making It Illegal To Tell Kids Gay People Exist

Editor’s note: As this story was published, Russia passed the bill by a unanimous vote, 434-0. Original story follows:

Russia today is voting on a Vladimir Putin supported bill that makes it illegal to tell children gay people exist or that homosexuality is equal to heterosexuality, and provides for fines, jail time, and deportation for those who violate the law.

“The bill provides for Russian citizens engaged in the ‘propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation’ to be fined , while foreigners could be arrested and immediately deported,” The Independent UK reports:

In recent weeks there have been two killings in which homophobia appears to have played at least a part, and the loose language of the law suggests that even services such as counselling for gay teenagers, or safe-sex advice, could theoretically be deemed illegal.

If the Duma passes the law in its key second reading, it could come into force by the end of the month.

A number of regions have already adopted a similar law, and now MPs from President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party want to implement a nationwide ban on “gay propaganda”.

The law defines the rather nebulous concept as “spreading information aimed at forming non-traditional sexual behaviour among children, suggesting this behaviour is attractive, and making a false statement about the socially equal nature of traditional and non-traditional relationships”.

odd occasion. For five minutes, anyway.

I wonder if people will stop using that state-run, state-controlled "RT" as a source? What we hear from that propaganda outlet is what Putin wants us to hear.

Scroll on down and back, and notice how many of the videos are from a site called "RT"--that's "Russia Today" and it is the official state propaganda arm of Vlad Putin. It's Pravda/Isvestia on tee vee, 21st Century KGB-POV straight from the former KGB head's mouth.

Go on--do your own looking. You'll see. You can't miss that bright green logo (it appeals to people with a "green" bent--they actually think there's an association, even though there isn't. Very clever, that!).

There are 60 postings on the front page of the Video & Multimedia forum. A grand total of three of those were links to RT programs--and they were all posted by the same DUer.

It was Thom Hartmann, posting the three most recent episodes of his program.

So you want me to believe that Thom Hartmann is a representative of the "official state propaganda arm of Vlad Putin"? Is that how you thought to convince me?

Damn. You have a hell of an uphill battle on your hands.

Another source given embarrassing credence here is PRESS TV, they of the "new Persian fighter plane" that is too small to hold a pilot and has an eight-track cassette tape in the cockpit, along with an old joystick from an F-4. They even took pictures of a remote-controlled plane and tried to pass that off as "test flights."

I like critical thinking. When people put themselves in the hands of those sorts of blatant propaganda outlets, and repeat their bullshit mindlessly, they're being told what to think, and how to slant their worldview. But hey, the "America Is Always Baaaaaaad" crowd just loves that shit. They are entranced by the exotic; they don't realize that the reason so many people from so many countries they love to champion come here rather than stay in their exotic lands is because, despite our many flaws, it's way better over here than it is where they've come from.

dinner in NYC...otherwise, the children would see them and want to know what they are--and the whole idea of this fucked up New Rule is to ensure that children don't know about gay folks....because I guess Pootie Poot thinks that KNOWING about gay people will make ya gay! And if that's the case, NOT knowing is "the cure!!!"

He ought to hook up with the Falwell types--talk about a communion of utter stupidity, the ultimate common crappy cause....
