Cornyn amendment aims to sabotage immigration reform
WASHINGTON Sen. John Cornyn insisted today that the sweeping border security amendment he unveiled today is meant to strengthen the Gang of Eight immigration plan, not sink it.
Cornyn, the No. 2 Senate Republican, rolled out his Results plan in a Dallas Morning News op-ed this morning, and is pitching it over lunch Wednesday to GOP colleagues at the Senate.
I dont view any of this as a poison pill as some have suggested, Cornyn told Texas reporters on a call. That doesnt describe my amendment or my intention.
And he took strong issue with the idea that his plan would ruin a delicate balance struck by the Gang, whose members have zealously defended the core elements of their plan on enforcement, security, lawful immigration and other elements.
