Santorum: Contraception 'Shouldn't Be In An Insurance Plan Anyway,'

Rick Santorum is continuing to oppose President Obama's new compromise measure on health insurance coverage of contraception for employees of religious institutions.

"No," Santorum replied, when asked whether he was satisfied, "not at all."

The Huffington Post reports from CPAC:

"This has nothing to do with access," he said. "This is having someone pay for it, pay for something that shouldn't be in an insurance plan anyway because it is not, really an insurable item. This is something that is affordable, available. You don't need insurance for these types of relatively small expenditures. This is simply someone trying to impose their values on somebody else, with the arm of the government doing so. That should offend everybody, people of faith and no faith that the government could get on a roll that is that aggressive."

5. I'd bet he has no idea what birth control costs because his wife has never used it.

When will somebody ask this fool the questions: where does a woman working for minimum wages get an extra $50-60 a month for birth control? Why do insurance policies cover Viagra for men? Why shouldn't governments have standards of what is included in insurance polices and how much companies are allowed to charge for them? Suppose I want to insure people for $15000 a year and only pay for 50% of their hospital stays, is that all right?

up when the mind works and the body doesn't. I don't see him complaining about any of those. Oh, I forgot. A women's only function is to 'please' her man. And man should always be pleased and therefore needs a functioning package.

9. So nothing under $30/mo should be covered by insurance if Santorum's in charge. Got it.

Has he ever heard the phrase "nickle-and-dimed?"

Or maybe he just means all cheap medications FOR WOMEN and their SINFUL lady-parts should be covered. I'd love to hear a journalist ask him some in-depth questions about this but I won't hold my breath.

You may recall it was Santorum that compared paying thousands of dollars for life saving medicine with buying an IPad.

16. So if an insurance company wants to cover contraception Rick is going to tell them they can't?

Many insurance companies cover contraception because it is less costly than paying for a pregnancy. Now "small government"
Ricky thinks he knows better.
