This may seem like a silly question, but...

What is the best online resource to determine the "top" new stories of each day and each week?

By that I mean the most covered, written-about stories, as well as stories that have the most comments and discussions pertaining to them.

Is there a handy-dandy site that curates news stories and topics that way, and archives them?

I realize most sites have their own "top stories" of the day, but I want to be able to look back over a week to see what the top stories had been but can't see an easy way to do that.

I'm sure I'm just being stupid.

Thanks.

In addition, you get a lot of liberal commentary in the comments section through the use of a superb interface.

Maybe someone can create an algorithm for DU that does what I'm seeking: List the top stories of the day, week, month.

And while I appreciate the discussion here, I'm also interested in what those outside the DU sphere are saying about various issues and news events.

I read a variety of sources and make an attempt to come to my own conclusions. Much of the "news" is manufactured and foisted upon us. But, the downside of my point of view is that I spend way too much time on-line trying to make that determination for myself.
