My dad passed away when he was almost 92. He wasn't a regular Faux watcher, but he always identified as a Republican (though he didn't like Sarah Palin and was fairly appalled when McCain chose her). Yet if you questioned him about specific issues his views were not really that conservative. I think when people get old they get stuck in certain opinions and they just don't change. There really isn't much point in arguing with someone who's 90.

of Bible Barbie offered up as VP material by the Republicans, but it's just as well he didn't. I can just imagine the language, he was an artistic cusser.

He loved the illusion of tax cuts and didn't like hearing that his taxes actually went up at the state level every time they lowered them on billionaires in Washington and he always voted straight Fascist.

Well, he did until 2004, when 4 years of Stupid had finally convinced him that they were up to no good and had been for a long time. His last vote was for Kerry.

Still, it would have been fun to listen to the profanity inspired by Palin.

I lost my father several years ago and we were never close. My step-dad, who I consider my Dad, I was much closer to. We had a great relationship.

I know it's sometimes hard to understand that kind of thinking and what he watches, but he's your Dad. Cherish the relationship for as long as you can. You are indeed fortunate to still have him.

Of course, I have no doubt you already know it.

own financial security in order to protect the social fabric of society. Meanwhile, he was having a hard time paying for his Medicare premium so he dropped the clinical coverage. Now come to find out he has been having mini strokes. He makes a couple hundred dollars more a month than it takes to qualify for Medicaid. He called Medicare and they are going to try and get him some help with his premium so he can be covered for clinical visits and prescriptions. He will probably die due to be poor. But there he sits watching FOX news and going to church(handing over his Medicare premium to his tithing), and reading his bible. I don't know who to be mad at. Republicans or him or both.

still in HS. He was a foul mouth, bigoted, card carrying Bircher. What I wouldn't give to be arguing with him today. I often wonder if he would have mellowed with time. Would I have had the courage to ever tell him I was the commie, pinko, bleeding-heart liberal he so despised?

Had he lived and stayed as he was, I would probably be the author of more than a few OPs like yours. It's good that you are able.
