People are people but some are more dishonest than others.
Conservatives act as if they are all successful businessmen and they would never accept food stamps, Social Security, Medicare, or a Veteran's pension. In fact, very few of them are independent and successful businessmen. They are hypocrites, in my opinion.
I really dislike the way conservatives rail against the big government spending and deficits when we would be in pretty good shape right now if not for their "big government spending" and their huge deficits. Can they not see their own foolishness?
I do not like the way conservatives pretend to be Rambos and ready to go to war at the drop of a pin. When, in fact, most of them never served in the military and did everything they could do to escape service. In my humble opinion, this makes them chickenshits.
There are many reasons to dislike present-day conservatives but I will leave room for more comments.

Their downward spiral from Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Eisenhower to George W. Bush and Mitt Romney shows us all we need to know. There are good Republicans, and they are probably feeling a lot of shame. Willingly accepting lying for your own cause has to bother the good ones. Willingly accepting racist, ignorant dogs in your company has to bother the good ones. But even the good ones tend to be human, so they are easy victims for laziness and stubbornness.
They think they are in a culture war and are on the side of good. So they have lowered their standards for their own conduct and character. I see it as more a sad irony than hypocrisy. I feel sorry for the good people who are mistakenly Republicans. The bad ones can go straight to Hell.

Instead of thinking for themselves, they would rather mindlessly

(32,084 posts)They're all "less government-low taxes" types, yet they either collect fat paychecks as government contractors (or work directly for the government), or their businesses/employers benefit directly from those government contractors. They're all having tantrums because of the sequester, and from the fact that the budget for the mixed-oxides reactor that's being built here has been slashed. Some of them are about to be laid off. How's that "drown the government in a bathtub" thing working for you now, assholes? And, of course, the filthbag politicians (Miss Lindsay, Joke Wilson, Sen. Token, etc.) are first up to the trough looking for that money to be restored...

(2,424 posts)Just an analogy that has nothing to do with football actually.
Myself, I'm a big football fan.
The Republican "grass roots" picked the team that wears red and they cheer them on. They don't actually look much deeper than that. This is all about "my side" winning. Nothing to do with how critical decisions may directly, adversely impact them. How else can you explain a group that supports an agenda that is opposite of their best interests? It must be a casual rooting interest.
Go team!

(14,498 posts)Gradually in some cases. In fits-and starts in others. But adopted, nonetheless.
I'd make a list but it'd be too long and it's 94 degrees here. Here's two biggies:
1. Public school privatization and profiteering. They ( both parties ) call it something else, but I've named it correctly. GOP idea in origin.
2. Basically the whole of US foreign policy. The RW of the GOP ignored Eisenhower's analysis of a military-industrial-congressional ( that word was in the original text) complex,
and the DEMs, post VN, adopted their worldview so they could cash in on the gravy-train too. Thanks. We get war-without-end and no safety net in the bargain.
I dislike the fact that they've corrupted the DEM party.

(30,674 posts)and went on the attack.
They destroyed unions and attempts to work collectively, which are all that we ordinary working Americans have to compete with the powerful corporatocracy.
They ruined representational government through gerrymandering and election fraud.
Used to be that Republicans would lose an election and they would grumble and debate, but eventually bow to the majority. Dems have never forgotten this American custom.
Modern Republicans think it's a crime to work with the other side. Obama is not everybody's president, he is other, lesser American's president.
Really? are we not supposed to interpret this as a racist movement as well as a fascist movement?.

(32,017 posts)Because gender is so important to us all, their being conflicted on this subject makes conservatives very dangerous.
I also dislike that many of them are narrow-minded and don't want to think about anything. Of course, that intellectual laziness makes them unable to resolve the conflict I described above, so most of them remain intractable and stuck with attitudes about gender that, quite simply, do not match the world in which we live. This causes them great pain which, in turn, makes them very dangerous.
