During the Church/pedophile scandal in Boston

the argument was made by Church officials that those in charge had no obligation to report incidents of abuse to police and that these "personnel problems" were none of the government's business and could be handled internally.

We all know how well that worked.

This practice of the Catholic Church of choosing when it will cooperate with the government (taking Federal funds) and when it won't is longstanding and ingrained.
