Nope, they'll still stab him in the back every chance they get you can bet on that. The last time he visited our state no one in government even bothered to show up, this time its different, we had a disaster so that brings out the bigots and racist with their hands outstretched and palms up looking for a hand out.
Obama gets a warm welcome from Oklahoma officials, tornado victims
MOORE - President Barack Obama visited tornado-devastated Moore on Sunday, consoling people staggered by the loss of life and property and promising his administration will be behind them "every step of the way."
"I'm just a messenger here," the president said, adding "folks are behind you" across America. He offered moral and monetary support in the wake of the monstrous EF5 tornado that killed 24 people, including 10 children, last Monday afternoon.
Standing with Gov. Mary Fallin and other state and federal officials, Obama noted a substantial rebuilding job ahead and said that "our hearts go out to you."

The White House said the Federal Emergency Management Agency has already provided $57 million in rebates and incentives to help build about 12,000 storm shelters in Oklahoma.

(51,076 posts)I'm 35 miles east of Tulsa. We didn't get enough rain those two days to settle the dust here. It was like a parting of the storms, part went north the rest stayed south of us, we stayed high and dry. Well not actually high but we did stay dry.

(51,076 posts)I'm hoping that with this visit some of my fellow okies will soften up a bit towards President O. He really is a good man and I hope they'll be able to see that now.

(45,319 posts)tight, this is according to them. They share 'faith and values' and love to spend time discussing how to get the lesbians out of the bathrooms, the cause that first motivated Tom into politics.
Oklahoma, Obama says, is lucky to have Coburn. This cake and eat it bullshit gets old and tired.

(1,201 posts)When the next disaster hits a different region of the nation, these same grateful people will forget and start bitching about "big government" again. Furthermore, if it is (God-forbid) a huge earthquake in California, some self righteous Christian will proclaim that, the disaster is because God is displeased with the immoral gay lifestyle of San Francisco. Funny, I haven't heard any liberal stating the tornadoes in Oklahoma are God's condemnation of bigoted rednecks who have perverted his son's teachings!

(2,390 posts)There has been a softening of the rhetoric since the storm but the hate is still here. Even in the quotes from some of the people he talked to there were underlying jabs.
Caleb Sloan, 24, who lost his home in the storm, said Obama's words gave him hope that help would be forthcoming.
"He has no choice but to live by his word," Sloan said. "I hope and pray and think he will keep his promises."
Some people here are slamming his visit with backhand compliments.
"It is fantastic he came, but his visit shut down everything," said Carol Hull, who has been working to feed and counsel victims. "We have no place to send people for food and aid while he is here because the roads and centers are shut down."
Many of the comments on these stories were terrible.
I have noticed that there has been a huge reduction in the public and workplace comments bashing the president but they still surface daily.
I am glad President Obama came and proud of how he has handled tragedies in both red and blue states.

this poor guy thinks PBO is a liar even though in reality it is those who are telling him this are the ones who are lying. But, in the end he "thinks PBO will keep his promises." Good.

(26,644 posts)Unlike W who did the "fly over" after Katrina, and, after almost 2000 people died, told the idiot in charge of FEMA he was doing a "heck of a job.
Madokie, so glad you are ok. We can only hope the good people of Oklahoma are humbled in the presence of a president who really cares and feel lucky that we finally have a president who values competence in government.
