...and not in favor of taxes and such. That's all I can figure. But I do wonder if she can remain a (R) given the anti-woman diatribes presented by the current candidates and their followers. Then again, maybe being an (R) is the only way to get elected in Walla-Walla?

I would like to know if she was for same sex marriage before her daughter came out of the closet.

So many republicans only change their minds when it affects them personally. That is my experience. With that said... good for her. She gets it and she is not afraid to let others know.

I was homophobic before I realized my cousin was gay. If all that surrounds your personal experience is negativity that the right spews and have never knowingly encountered a gay person it's hard to say you wouldnt buy into the bullshit, what's important is that she ardently supports it now- when it mattered most

It is just it seems that I have seen too many right wingers telling people how they should live until an issue affects them. Whether that be the gay/lesbian issues, healthcare or euthanasia for example. I am happy to see this congresswoman bring some logic to her party. It shows me there are a few republicans that understand what is the right thing to do and do it, not just cowtow to the policies of their party.

Uh, no it's not. All I was ever exposed to was conservative homophobia and hate, and I didn't know any gay people growing up. I have never been homophobic, even in high school when that attitude wasn't popular at all.

this is a republican????
there may be hope.

her daughter story, about standing up for someone at school - that hit home especially because my kid did that when she was small too. I was really proud, puffy proud. *wipes tears.

I could care less, during that four minutes, what letter is after her name. It is just fantastic that she gets it. It sounds like her own life experiences have shaped her views on this issue. It also sounds like it wasn't just having a daughter who is gay, it is knowing just how special the bond between two people can be, and knowing that it is not only heterosexuals who have that bond.

She's very brave going against the Republican establishment that's so invested in tackling social issues. But then again, that's all most of them have anymore. This lady has pride in herself, pride in her family, and I can't help but respect her for that.

and send a supportive e-mail. I'm sure the Republicans in Washington's House of Representatives have been less than kind about her comments and her stance on this issue...

There is always a chance some would come to their senses.
Plus, there has been an influx of wine culture in the Walla Walla area. Really great wines
there, I hear.
Anyway that representative is showing what the human face of dignity looks like.

You'd like to think that she'd feel the same way if her daughter were straight. But she wouldn't.
