New Candidate for MDMC Prize: Most Disgusting Member of Congress

Rep. Stephen Fincher, R-TN

On this one, FORBES and COUNTERPUNCH appear to be in complete agreement:

http://www.counterpunch.org/2013/05/24/congressman-quotes-jesus-in-bid-to-gut-food-stamps/

FORBES:

During a recent House Agriculture Committee debate over the Farm Bill (which contains the food stamp budget), Vargas, citing the Book of Matthew, noted, “[Jesus] says how you treat the least among us, the least of our brothers, that’s how you treat him.”

Vargas also noted that Jesus directly mentions the importance of feeding the hungry.

Not to be outdone by a Godless Democrat, Congressman Fincher responded with his own Bible quote taken from the Book of Thessalonians—“The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” .....

...Representative Fincher happens to be the second largest recipient of farm subsidies in the United States Congress—which might explain why Mr. Fincher would like to decimate the food stamp budget in order to do the Lord’s work when “supporting a proposal to expand crop insurance by $9 billion over the next 10 years.”

How much money are the taxpayers forking over to Congressman Fincher via farm subsidies?

While Fincher may only come in second amongst his congressional peers when it comes to pocketing huge sums of taxpayer money, he has the distinction of being one of the largest recipients of subsidies in the history of the great State of Tennessee.

COUNTERPUNCH:
GOP Congressman Stephen Fincher is on a mission from God. He wants to drastically cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as food stamps, for 47 million of our poorest citizens. He supports a rider on the farm bill that would effectively eliminate 2 million people from the program, most of them children and older people, according to a report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan Washington research group....

....in 2010 the Federal Election Commission conducted an investigation into a $250,000 loan to the Fincher campaign from the Gates Banking and Trust Company, where Fincher’s father is a board member. On July 21, 2011, the FEC ruled unanimously that Fincher had violated federal election law by listing the loan as a personal donation rather than from Gates Banking and Trust Company. To date, no penalty has been invoked for the illegal act.

In September 2011, Fincher was named one of the “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington...

...It's just so ironic.

Back in the 70's or whenever it was that the programs were introduced, it was with bi-partisan support from a prominent Democrat from a farm state, George McGovern, and a Republican from another, Bob Dole.

These days, the ass hats have no limits at all on their hypocrisy.

Edit to Add:

OMG... Thom Hartmann just featured this post after the news break at the half hour, minutes ago! .....But I have to say that it's not my graphic up there, I was just looking for an available online image of the congress person -- to put a face with the misdeeds -- and that was the jpg I liked best. Kudo's to whoever created it.

Although if you're not going 1-on-1, you'd have to consider Stephanie Miller and all The Mooks, as a team.

With that whole ensemble cast and all their recurring featured guests (Aisha Tyler! Amy Madigan! that whiter-than-pale Fugelsang dude!), that might be neck-and-neck.
