The "One Million Moms" are encouraging their members to call their local JC Penney store to complain about Ellen Dengeneres becoming their new spokesperson.
From their webpage:
It is absurd to think that a company would find treating customers in this fashion an acceptable behavior. Our members stated their concerns in a kind, professional manner. Insulting customers by ignoring us will not be tolerated. OMM members can shop elsewhere if JC Penney does not appreciate our business. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war and listen to customers in a considerate fashion, their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.
Degeneres is not a true representation of the type of families who shop at the retailer. The small percentage of customers they are attempting to satisfy will not offset their loss in sales by offending the majority.
Since JC Penney won't listen to us nationally, it is time we let them hear from us locally!

In addition to calling and thanking the manager, I will be there on Saturday to do some shopping. Who's with me?

Here is Ellen's BRILLIANT response:

(81,267 posts)Always have. She's so funny even while being completely clean! And she provides a superb role model. I find her a complete joy. I'm not boycotting ANYBODY for affiliating with her!

(3,521 posts)but I still think their merchandice is kind of crappy and overpriced.

(27,995 posts)I recently bought towels and linens there and was impressed with the quality. They always have sales going on.

(3,269 posts)and realized that both socks had holes in them.
"The Universe really wants me to buy new socks," she said & then went to the J.C. Penney website. There aren't really any J.C.P. stores near us and they certainly reeled in two new customers today.

(14,275 posts)That is one time more than I did in the last decade. It is rare to find a store that sells clothes that actually fit me and I want to wear. I am liking Penneys more and more.

(4,723 posts)So, Bigots United (I doubt there is a million, and I would be surprised too if all were mothers) wants to challenge something they don't like by hassling local working stiffs? And what, the local working stiffs are then going to get Penney's to change their policy?
DesertRat
(27,995 posts)You're right, it's ridiculous for these bigots to hassle the local managers. I'm going to let Penneys know that this heterosexual, married, Christian Mom thinks that Ellen is terrific!

(17,528 posts)No more wondering. I'll give her a nice big gift card from JCP's.
I'll ask her to tell the staff when she buys something that it was a gift
due to their Ellen Degeneres decision.

(261 posts)I don't need anything myself, but you were so enthusiastic that I thought hard until I remembered an occasion coming up soon.
The store was packed. It could've been because of Valentine's Day or another reason, but the cashier where I paid called for assistance to deal with the long line!

(37,648 posts)that's what I usu. do. But I looked last week, and they'd removed some of my favorite items (they've transformed their brand), and the ones I looked at that I'd liked were higher priced. But they have a regular "best price" day or something that I didn't understand.

(261 posts)A few weeks ago JCP mailed a glossy catalog with a Siamese kitten on the cover (the main reason I kept it instead of recycling it) and it said there would be big markdowns every first and third Friday. The next sale day will be Feb. 17, then. No word about what, exactly, would be priced lower.
When I went earlier today, my local store had the same Worthington, East 5th, Alfred Dunner, and low-end Liz Claiborne fashions they've always had for women. I really don't like their clothing lines -- hey, maybe they should get Ellen to design something for them! Her outfit looked great on the video in the OP.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)Seriously, Penney's is my go-to store for home shopping. So I check their website regularly, anyway.
So the "best price" is every first and third Friday? Hmmmm....I guess I could try to remember, but I have trouble keeping track of the "first Tuesday of the month" for bulk trash pickup.
Re the clothing lines, I have several Worthington pants from years past, but tehy haven't worked for me the last couple of years. They've changed and no longer fit my body properly. So I went on to the pricier Victoria's Secret brand in pants this year. (But on sale)
I bought two pantry furniture items a few months ago. They were on great sales. I checked those items out online; they're still there and selling for a higher regular price than the sale price. I would never buy them for that price.
I guess I may have to move on to another store. I can't shop online on Fridays only, if that's the deal.
I also checked out their drapery hardware. The ones I was thinking of buying are gone. They no longer carry the super wide hardware. So I guess I'll have to move to an expensive drapery hardware place. Bummer. I didn't buy it before, because they were out of the "bronze" color I wanted. I guess that's why they were out of that color; they were going to discontinue carrying it.
