Ds Propose 6-Week CUT To Unemployment Benefits

Negotiating with the Rs, Ds propose cutting fed extension of UE benefits to 93 weeks from 99 weeks.

Rs are proposing drug testing and/or earning a GED for people to receive UI, with a 20-week cut to max benefit length, and a cutoff of 59 weeks if the unemployment rate drops under a certain number. Ds have already said no way to that.

I'm on unemployment right now, going into my 54th week. I haven't been invited for a job interview since November.

This is scary.

in the same way that "we" pay for Federal Employees' healthcare, that is, "we" pay a part of the premium, "they" pay the remainder.

6. "What is it with them and drug testing?!" Well, my take is that

they do this as part of the scapegoating process. They wan to paint people on UE and people on SNAP and other government programs are just a bunch of freeloading trash, criminals, drug users, lazy. It helps them paint their opposition as evil people enabling evil people, who steal from working folks to give to worthless no-goodnicks. They hope that people will then vote Repuke, and the repukes can dismantle the whole safety, and otherwise make sure their rich owners get richer.

Are they taking the Local unemployment rate, or the National unemployment rate?

8. I think it's based on State rates. At least that's what I got from the article.

We have a pretty high rate here in CA, so it probably wouldn't effect me unless they starting chopping weeks off the max.
