SANTORUM: They are taking faith and crushing it. Why? Why? When you marginalize faith in America, when you remove the pillar of God-given rights, then whats left is the French Revolution. Whats left is the government that gives you right, whats left are no unalienable rights, whats left is a government that will tell you who you are, what youll do and when youll do it. Whats left in France became the guillotine. Ladies and gentlemen, were a long way from that, but if we do and follow the path of President Obama and his overt hostility to faith in America, then we are headed down that road.
That's nuts! I quite literally RSVP'd to a Facebook event invite to decapitate a group of Christans in the town square tomorrow night!

(32,683 posts)"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government,"[26] and that "In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own."[27]

(4,847 posts)of course, he may be against our fathers and mothers of liberty. He's yakking away about the french revolution and ignoring our little party?
So, does he want to return to the monarchy, a divine right of kings-god's chosen leaders? It also sounds like he's confirming the statement "religion is the opiate of the masses." That the "chosen" wealthy, elite can continue their corruption and greed grabs as long as the plebes know their place, and religion is the control mechanism.

(12,504 posts)it's his best offensive move. It's the only thing he has to hang his hat on.
But gawd doesn't he love to play the martyr? That's hardly much of a Presidential characteristic. More theocratic wannabe's...aka Ayatollah Khomeini. I think he needs to get a TV show instead. Doesn't Fox have an opening?

Here's a more recent (2008) piece on the same subject. Well worth reading the whole thing. Here's a teaser:
"If it comes--and if those whose poisonous, unhinged verbiage has been so ubiquitous this week have any say over it, it surely will--this is how it will happen: not with tanks and jackbooted storm troopers, but carried in the hearts of men and women dressed in comfortable shoes, with baseball caps, and What Would Jesus Do? wristbands. It will be heralded by up-dos, designer glasses, you-betcha folksiness and a disdain for big words or hard consonants.
If fascism comes, it will spring from the soil of middle America, from people known as values voters but whose values are toxic, from simple folk whose simplicity, far from being admirable, is better labeled ignorance, from "all-American" types whose patriotism is a dagger pointed at the very heart of the national interest, for it so forsakes all the best principles upon which the republic was founded, choosing instead to elevate and ratify the narrow-mindedness, the bigotry, and the intolerance that also marked our country's origins."

(172 posts)a small island somewhere far away and let them run it by their own accords. Just let the right-wing born-againers, the Paul-bots, the birthers, and people who make gobs of money like Mitt does be by themselves for awhile. I give it 5 to 10 years before they're begging to come back to the USA.

(20,226 posts)CRAZY Rick Santorum is not only literally preaching to the choir - he is reassuring them of their own salvation. In Fundamentalist circles - being persecuted is viewed as proof of one's righteousness and even their redemption. AND - The rise of great persecution along with apocalyptic wars in the Middle East are absolute proofs and signs of the second coming of Jesus Christ. By telling these people that they are being persecuted and greater persecution may be coming - he is very much telling them what they in fact very much want to hear and reaffirming to them of their own sense of righteousness and even reassuring them of their salvation.
