If it isn't real close (like less than two miles), go outside and look. They're pretty cool to watch.

Keep an eye on the radar. If it gets crazy, go hide.

Eastern CT, but my mom lives in Western, MA, edge of the Berkshires. I just talked to her...she didn't have the TV on, didn't know anything about it.

But we can already hear the thunder rumbles out here.

I blew it off and thought it was one of those test messages - I'm in NY.

Sun is shining and it's hot.

I'm not sure there's a good way to describe that feeling.... sort of like there's not quite enough oxygen around. Anyway, it's not unusual for it to feel that way before you see any storm clouds.

I just went down to shove the clothes into the dryer, it feels like pressing and little hard to breathe. Not a leaf moving.

Fine time to remember that I forgot to buy a battery powered radio.

edit to add - The warning here is for the adjoining county to mine.

It doesn't take that much cranking to get an hour's worth of airtime, and you won't have to think about whether you have batteries and whether they're any good.

That would be my next asshat move -- no batteries.

I'll check at the Gander Mountain next time I'm over that way.

But they're saying it's another 30-40 minutes before the storms hit our area. Claiming by then they'll be downgraded to severe t-storms with giant hail.

as much as we do in the Midwest, but great improvements have been made in weather radios. Here's an example:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Midland-WR120B-Weather-Alert-Radio/16451519

Unlike the old ones that went off constantly, since they covered a large area, these are more targeted. You can enter in county codes, so it only goes off when a warning has been issued for your county (or a few adjacent counties if you like). It stays silent for months at a time...but will start blaring and wake you up if you're sleeping or not listening to a radio to hear a warning.

I think they should be installed as part of the house, like smoke detectors.

(btw, I'm not endorsing the example, that's just the brand that is given away around here (Topeka)...yes the local emergency management sometimes buys these and hands them out).

Fortunately, no really high winds, certainly no tornadoes. The hail was pea-sized, didn't seem to do any damage. But now it's hot and humid as hell.
