By Igor Volsky
Rick Santorum continued to rail against President Obamas so-called war against religion during a town hall in Plano, Texas Wednesday night. The former Pennsylvania senator who has spent the last several days criticizing the governments requirement that insurers provide contraception coverage and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision striking down Proposition 8 accused the administration of crushing religion and setting the United States on the path towards executing religious people by decapitation:

(14,174 posts)They have taken the "straw man argument" to a whole notha level.
Obama is just too smooth, he's too pragmatic, cordial, and worst of all he's so damn conciliatory!
They have to make up their own candidate, take him to a Hollywood effects house and put fangs on him, hair, and big claws, then dress him in "hood" style baggy pants and a backwards cap to top it off. Install a pull string in his back to say things like "All America is now under Sharia Law", "Off with that Christians head!" and "Give me your guns!"
Only THEN do they feel they have a shot at him. With their holy-than-thou silver bullets.

The then (Republican) governor of Ohio, Rhodes, IIRC, made the following comment after George Romney, the sane and decent father of Willard, said he was "brainwashed" by the US military about the situation in Vietnam:
"George Romney running for president is like a duck trying to fuck a football."
Substitute "pRick Santorum" and the same goes for him.

(20,226 posts)CRAZY Rick Santorum is not only literally preaching to the choir - he is reassuring them of their own salvation. In Fundamentalist circles - being persecuted is viewed as proof of one's righteousness and even their redemption. AND - The rise of great persecution along with apocalyptic wars in the Middle East are absolute proofs and signs of the second coming of Jesus Christ. By telling these people that they are being persecuted and greater persecution may be coming - he is very much telling them what they in fact very much want to hear and reaffirming to them their own sense of righteousness and even reassuring them of their own salvation.

(1,560 posts)Jefferson had it right:
"It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it [the Book of Revelation], and I then considered it merely the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherencies of our own nightly dreams ... I cannot so far respect them as to consider them as an allegorical narrative of events, past or subsequent. There is not enough coherence in them to countenance any suite of rational ideas.... What has no meaning admits no explanation. And pardon me if I say, with the candor of friendship, that I think your time too valuable, and your understanding of too high an order, to be wasted on these paralogisms. You will perceive, I hope, also that I do not consider them as reveladons of the supreme being, whom I would not so far blaspheme as to impute to him a pretension of revelation, couched at the same time in terms which, he would know, were never to be understood by those to whom they were addressed."
-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to General Alexander Smyth, January 17, 1825

(3,871 posts)Earlier I wrote that I though that there might have been an edit point at 0:45 in the TP video. A second video (on Breitbart's YouTube account) denies that: the transcript from ThinkProgress is accurate. I was caught by shaky YouTube video and Santorum's own inarticulate syntax.
The following two videos can be synchronized if the upper video is set to 0:34 and the lower video is set to 0:47. Assuming an equal speed of replay, there is a 13-second offset between the two recordings.
Aside: the poster displayed in the OP could definitely be emended to read
NEVER CALL ME...SANE.
