War on contraception - just wondering - will they win this war?

Please, someone talk me down, because I am honestly afraid at this point. I know that most people use contraception at one point or another in their lives. Will most of these same people oppose outlawing contraception, or will the reich wing once again win and impose their craziness on the rest of us? I am so glad I had a hysterectomy last summer. Dang.

5. During election years they always create and/or bring out wedge issues

The point of these issues is to manipulate citizens into voting against their own interests by using fear and loathing, but they need to keep these issues for the next time they want the voters to vote for them. This means they do absolutely nothing to do away with the 'dreaded gays and Latinos'. They've lost the gay wedge issue because they can't manipulate people as well as they used to and haven't been able to stop real progress. They've lost the illegal immigrant issue because the color of the population has changed.

So now it's women's contraception. They know they can't change it, but they talk like they can to the uber religious Right who believe them and they'll get the votes. But like all their wedge issues they won't really do anything about it as long as they can use it to get elected again next time.

Everything you hear in election years is hyped up super exaggerated hyperbolic frothing at the mouth. It explains why Santorum is still in the race. He's totally uninteresting the rest of the years and no one gives a shit about him. But now he's going on about gays and women's rights. He'll be forgotten as soon as he loses because the majority of Americans will actually go out and vote against him if he gets close.

8. America is changing

The US demographics have forced the GOP into a corner. Their base is old, dying off, and getting diluted. The last vestages of power are calling out for radical moves that move us back into the time that their old constituency can remember. 1960's issues have become modern issues. Issues that America once thought was behind them. Contraception is one of those issues.

The GOP cannot survive as an institution if they remain on their current path. Women are a very strong political force. The attack on women is the single biggest mistake for the GOP in my lifetime. They will pay dearly for it.
