Xenophobia only benefits the 1 percentThe fact is, global corporations have no allegiance to any country; their only objective is to make as much money as possible and play off one country against another to keep their taxes down and subsidies up, thereby shifting more of the tax burden to ordinary people whose wages are already shrinking because companies are playing workers off against each other.
Meanwhile, at a time when youd expect nations to band together to gain bargaining power against global capital, the opposite is occurring: Xenophobia is breaking out all over.
Here in Britain, the UK Independence Party which wants to get out of the European Union is rapidly gaining ground, becoming the third most popular party in the country, according to a new poll for The Independent on Sunday. Almost one in five people plan to vote for it in the next general election. Ukips overall ratings have risen four points to 19 per cent in the past month, despite Prime Minister David Camerons efforts to wrest back control of the crucial debate over Britains relationship with the European Union.
Right-wing nationalist parties are gaining ground elsewhere in Europe as well. In the U.S., not only are Republicans sounding more nationalistic of late (anti-immigrant, anti-trade), but they continue to push states rights as states increasingly battle against one another to give global companies ever larger tax breaks and subsidies.
Nothing could strengthen the hand of global capital more than such breakups.

in hard times or dangerous times, it's much easier to get people to be afraid and to hate "the other" (find some group to blame for perceived troubles).

(53,661 posts)2. I looked up the UKIP and they are conservative libertarians. Their goals match our libertarians:
Taxation and economy
UKIP proposes cuts in corporation taxes and the abolition of inheritance taxes.[52] A flat rate of tax and the abolition of national insurance are advocated, which UKIP claims will simplify the tax system, although it is currently unclear what this flat tax rate would be set at.[53]
UKIP proposes "tens of billions" of cuts to taxation, along with a further £77bn of cuts to the public sector in order to reduce the deficit.[53] The economic plans outlined by UKIP have been called into question by The Times, who have highlighted a £120 billion black hole in their spending plans.

More Libertarian, Ron Paul, Tea Bagger ideas that Democrats do not believe in:
Libertarians believe that taxes should be abolished along with all the programs and departments that taxes fund. Libertarians dont believe in Medicare. Libertarians dont believe in Social Security. Libertarians dont believe that there should be fire departments, police departments, public transportation, grants for education, unemployment, disability, food stamps, and every other type of government system and assistance that you can think of.
Libertarians wish to eliminate taxes in order to eliminate all of the above programs and more. Libertarians believe that without these taxes, individuals will have more money in their pockets and will be able to afford all of these things. If someone is unable to provide themselves or their family with school, health care, or food, people need to rely on family members, church, or a private charity.
Libertarians believe that governments role in the market should be to protect property owners rights. There should be no FDA, equal employment opportunities, unions, minimum wage, payroll taxes, safe food handling requirements, consumer protections, regulations that protect against financial conflicts of interest and fraud, and business licenses.
Libertarians believe that business owners should have the right to deny entry to minorities and/or women and/or people with disabilities, if that is how business owners wish to run their businesses.

Social Security and Medicaid keeps millions of people the Romneys will never meet, and have no idea exist, off the streets. They disapprove of those who are doing the work to keep them alive and well, because it's a 'statist' thing, not ideologically pure, easy for them.
Democrats are and will continue to help many more people than private groups ever will. The GOP who are Libertarians, plan to end all government so there will no votes needed, just be connected to the biggest boss you can find.

They are working against all the goals of progressives, liberals and Democrats no matter how well they disguise their plans.
