Will the GOP be even a credible party in four, six or eight years from now...
There was a post that claimed over 70% of the people under 35 believe that same sex marriage is ok by them.
That is one of the big wedge issues they use to drive the blue haired ladies crazy.
What are they going to use to divide people who aren't interested in being pidgeon holed anymore.
So is the US going to slowly slide back to a center left leaning nation that is more concerned with quality of life than the quantity of things...
I surely hope so because that would be the kind of country I wanted to live in and, if it ever came to that, die for.

(18,186 posts)Example: a local thriving business closed because the owners 'didn't want Obama to get any of their hard-earned money.'
Like their federal taxes were going directly to the president, and he represents all of the "others" they are "better than."
You can almost see the fear in these people - like they're worried that once old White Christian guys aren't in charge, everyone will treat them the same way they and their ancestors treated "the others."
The 1% have insulated themselves from facing diversity by robbing us all blind, increasing the prison state, and buying elections. Meanwhile, the working class bigots who fear "the others" (with absolutely nothing to fear that education can't fix) are being used by the 1% to stoke the fires of racist-based fear, so the 1% can continue robbing, imprisoning and leading.
The working class racists and homophobes are digging their own graves but they sure do feel "better than those other people" for a little while. They rage and dance for the 1% like puppets. And the 1% stand behind them and grab their wallets like true common thieves.
Clue to lower class, bigoted fear-mongers: A world run by people who don't think they're better than everyone else will be a welcome relief from this crap we're dealing with now. It's time for change.

(23,671 posts)If our party had played it smart after Obama won with his "change" campaign by not compromising so often I believe the GOP would already be nearly irrelevant after the disaster of the two Bush terms.

(8,636 posts)However, the Republicans still have unlimited money in the post-Citizens United Era. They also have voter disqualification and redistricting in place. Their agenda is to make the US a one-party country, and of course, to eliminate any remnants of a middle class.

(22,308 posts)The desperate attempts to reduce the number of Democratic voters on the state level. The crazy attacks on Unions and union workers. The lashing out at immigrants, gays and anyone else they can label as "other". These are all simply the thrashings of a party who's time has come and gone. Rove's "deeper not wider" strategy has forced them to reject the center and that is political suicide in the long run.
They seem crazy because they are in a no win situation. If they turn their backs on the policies they have supported for decades they cease to exist as a party. If they don't turn their backs on the policies they have supported for decades they slowly diminish as a party.
Death Throws.
I don't know if it is four, six, eight or twenty years but it is inevitable. If we can rack up some big wins this year it may hasten the end. The TPers might decide that if they are going to lose anyways then they might as well go form an ideologically pure third party and just lose with true conservatives instead of going through the effort of supporting someone like Rmoney just to watch him lose.

And let me say that the 70% of the people under 35 believe that same sex marriage is okay is probably a low ball estimate. Probably a lot higher than people think.
