. . . it's also about affordability of school attire. Other rationales also are used. The kids look to adapt well to that uniformity, although, I've never been subject to it and would have absolutely hated it (for my children, as well).

But then fashion was a word that wasn't in my vocabulary.

I guess uniforms do take away one of the distractions, plus as you mentioned the affordability factor makes it easier on everyone.
