Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) told NowThisNews on Wednesday that he loves “so-called gangsta rap,” and especially hip-hop group Public Enemy, because he feels the song “Fight the Power” somehow mirrors his own struggles in Washington, D.C. and the scandals of the Obama administration.

“This is a song that came out really, if you really get down to it, in many ways reflects the conservative message of having a heavy-handed federal government, of a party where…” he said, trailing off. “Chuck D and I may disagree on certain philosophies of government — but I think at the end of the day, and this is where I take my love of hip-hop music, of where you can see there have been issues with heavy-handed law enforcement, like the Department of Justice like we see now with the AP, or heavy-handed government in and of itself.”

Chuck D and Public Enemy were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, becoming just the fourth rap group to be honored by the museum. Chuck D has also spoken out in favor of President Barack Obama’s endorsement of same sex marriage, although he’s not an outspoken supporter of the president’s by any means. He also recently headed up a project called Operation Skid Row, a grassroots group that distributes donations to homeless people.

Radel, on the other hand, is a former journalist and radio host born in Cincinnati, currently serving his first term in Congress. He was one of the first members of the House to agree with a right-wing blogger that President Barack Obama should maybe get impeached over his support for an assault weapons ban. He was also avidly in favor of the so-called “sequestration” budget cuts that have slashed unemployment benefits, cut patient access to life-sustaining health care, reduced funding for public housing and education, and trimmed job placement services for veterans, to name just a few of its adverse effects.

4. They do have that homophobia in common. Hearing Chuck D on the radio made me change the station.

That fucker wrote some really ugly anti gay screeds back 'in the day'. Never apologized, just runs around affecting liberality that really is not what Chuck D is, he serves himself and hates many other groups of people to the point of crafting performance and recorded messages against the minorities he sees as the source of all evil and whatnot.

That's Chuck's call to beat up gay people, he uses Cagney whom I met when he was old and who sure did not speak like a bigot to me or the other gay artists present. Chuck D never met Cagney. Chuck exploits him and puts words into his mouth, uses a great elder artist to sell his own venom.

Being co host with Rachel Maddow tells me he might have done some growing up in the years following Public Enemy's heyday. Below are some quotes from him on the issue of marriage equality. But I agree that he weaseled out of the questions reg. the lyrics in “Meet the G that Killed Me,”. And yes, I agree that his lyrics in "Welcome To The Terrordome" after kicking out Professor Griff for being an anti-semitic dick were well you know anti-semitic themselves. He is in no way making massive profits since his records for the past 20 years haven't sold much. Kids ar enot into protest music anymore. I fail to see how he's a voice for the 1%:

Now celebrating 25 years as a collective, the rapper addresses the subject with unreserved intensity, despite the fact Public Enemy has previously expressed opposition on the matter. Their track “Meet the G that Killed Me,” for instance, begins with the line, “Man to man, I don’t know if they can, from what I know, the parts don’t fit.” Yet Chuck pleads no remorse for his words. Rather, he says, “There were always homophobic tendencies in the black community, but we were very cool about speaking about what was in the air at that time.”

You do recall that Maddow frequently employed Pat Buchanan, a huge homophobe, on her shows and she'd grin at him and call him Uncle Pat. She gets about 3 million a year for that sort of thing.
Chuck's 'art' caused great pain and motivated hate and violence toward gay people. He did that in order to make himself rich, he still gather up those profits and spends them on Chuck. Rich old fuck who sells intolerance and refuses to take accountability for that which he has done. To claim it is fine to be a bigot because many in your community are bigots sort of suggests that white racists are not responsible for their racism, after all there were always racist tendencies in the white community. Chuck suggests that a white power band is just very cool speaking about what's in the air. I do not agree with Chuck, but Chuck only says what he says to serve Chuck and his big fat ass bank account.
And of course, he and the media have made Flavor Bigot into a big mainstream star. They should not be in the Hall of Fame anymore than some Aryan Nations band should be, but they made so much money that people overlook the seething contempt they have for so many minorities.
How cute that Chuck Bigot 'supports the President'. After a lifetime of spewing filth at others. Very cute. He spent years advocating the violent attacks that end all freedom. He's a hypocrite stewing in the wealth he earned by hating other people.
Chuck could make amends and show some penance, but as you say he has no remorse. He does have 15 million dollars. Just no remorse for how he got it. No wonder Republicans admire him. He got wealthy slandering minorities. They love that. No remorse. They love that too.
