The commander in chief of the American armed forces today forced a violation of Marine Corps regulations, so he wouldn’t get wet.

According to Marine Corps regulation MCO P1020.34F of the Marine Corps Uniform Regulations chapter 3, a male Marine is not allowed to carry an umbrella while in uniform. There is no provision in the Marine Corps uniform regulation guidelines that allows a male Marine to carry an umbrella.

Clearly clueless about the meaning of the provision--that Marines aren't supposed to be holding an umbrella for their own use.

They really do see this as tantamount to --yes, rape. One notes that if the President asked a marine to rape, then he would be duty bound to resist. Similarly, this command was illegal (perhaps even unconstitutional? Because the Marine Corps uniform code is written into the constitution?). Because the situations are exactly the same.

They also seem to imagine that the marines working on the presidential detail somehow outrank him, and that he should be deferential to them.

And that the presidential detail is some sort of onerous, unwanted ordeal for the marines. As if they bear this horrible burden reluctantly and with great disdain for the president, because of course he is illegitimate and only became president by cheating somehow.

service and dress uniforms. It will be carried in the left hand so that the
hand salute can be properly rendered. Umbrellas may not be used/carried in
formation nor will they be carried with the utility uniform.

Army regulation (no provision that allows males to carry an umbrella here, either):

27–27. Umbrella
a. Type. The umbrella is an optional purchase item.
b. Description. The umbrella is black, plain, with no logos or designs, and is of a commercial design.
c. How worn. Females may carry and use an umbrella, only during inclement weather, when wearing the service
