Police dept. runs out of ammo, police chief asks city residents for ammo donations

http://now.msn.com/walter-wobig-minnesota-police-chief-requests-ammunition-from-citizens-during-bullet-shortage

Whether you realize it or not, our great nation — once so proudly rife with ammunition — is in the midst of a bullet crisis. And the ammo shortage is affecting the people who need it most. No, not wealthy hunting hobbyists, but law enforcement authorities. The situation is so dire that Proctor, Minn., police chief Walter Wobig is calling on the general public for high-caliber help. And that call has been answered. "The citizens were like, 'If you need something, we got plenty here,'" Wobig said, and generous citizens came up with 1,500 rounds for the cause. The chief, who is waiting "months" to get bullets from his suppliers, says he'll pay back citizens when his ammo arrives.

God damn, that's fucked up.

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security?

The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.

But I don't know if I'd be much help. Most of what I have reloaded is 44-40, .45 Long Colt, 32-40, 45-70 etc. to go with my rifles and pistols. Unless he has Wyatt Earp and Marshall Dillon on the force I don't think I'd have any ammo that'd fit

we had to provide our own handguns an ammo, I carried a Smith & Wesson .357 up until the Forest Service finally saw fit to standardize our weapons and issued the S & W 9mm and when I finally retired, we were carrying the
S & W .40 cal.
Still had to buy my own holster and mag holders. Cheap bastards.

Out in the rural are where I lived all the little town cops and most of the county deputies were carrying S&W model 10 .38 spl. The only LE officers I remember carrying .357s were State Troopers. Oops, I'm giving my age away now

I kinda gave away my age also, I started as a Ranger in the early 70's after a 6 year stint in the Army.

My stash is running low and I can't find it anywhere. I can't imagine people are buying it to use in their 5.56mm semi automatic rifles.

I have enough ammo loaded up now where I'm not too worried about it. I shoot more .22LR these days than I do anything else, and I have a ton of .22 ammo.
