More Details on Benghazi Talking Points Emerge
CNNs Jake Tapper this afternoon obtained a version of the same White House e-mail I reported on last week that showed the evolving Benghazi talking points being shaped by the Obama administration last September....
The differences in the two versions are being taken by some as evidence that my source sought to intentionally mislead about the extent of State Department involvement in changing the talking points. The version I obtained makes specific reference to the State Department, while the version reported by CNN references only all of the relevant equities and does not single out State....

(12,151 posts)What's the big conspiracy supposed to be, again? Republicans are acting like they're burrowing toward a conclusion that Obama, personally, ordered the attack on the consulate.
It's not a revelation or horrifying or mystifying that in the hours after an attack, different agencies argued over talking points and what statement to make. They might have even (gasp) decided to obfuscate or speak vaguely because they either a) weren't sure exactly what happened, or b) wanted to conceal whatever the CIA was up to.
What didn't happen was that somehow everyone lied because something something election Obama. Being in charge when a terrorist attack happened got Bush a second term. It's not like a movie-motivated attack would be more flattering than a general "we don't like America" attack.
It would be hilarious if what this silly "investigation" ultimately reveals is that the CIA wanted to conceal illegal torture FROM Obama. Republicans love torture, and their humiliation at undermining it would be delicious.
Meanwhile, they look stupid, and desperate.

"I do find it hilarious that Mr. Karl wants to hold this administration to a standard he himself is not willing to abide to. You messed up, Jon. You got played by a 'source'. Instead of manning up to that mistake, you are trying to frame it in a way you are still right. Just as you ask the Obama administration to do, you need to man up yourself, and at least retain some of your credibility, and dignity, by admitting a mistake. After that, move on, and definitely find another 'source' of information, rather than one who is laughing at you right now."
"Clearly there are some real issues that need to be addressed now:
1. Why did Jonathan Karl attempt to mislead the public about Benghazi?
2. When Mr. Karl claimed yesterday that his untruthful reporting about Benghazi "rocked the political world" (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/po... ) was he further trying to mislead the public?
3. Who else at ABC News knew that Jonathan Karl was misleading the public about Benghazi and when did they know it?
4. Will Jonathan Karl resign over his involvement in the Benghazi scandal or at least seek immediate treatment for Benghazi Fever?"

"Someone told him that they had heard from another source who could not be named that someone else had told them that they had seen an email from someone else (unidentified) that an email they saw might have talked about Benghazi but it might have been Benihana or something."
