Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) belittled progressives during a speech at the conservative American Enterprise Institute on Wednesday.
Progressivism is well-intentioned but it is also -- in my humble opinion -- arrogant and condescending, Ryan said, according to a transcript. Instead of helping people make their own decisions, it makes those decisions for them. It makes Washington the center of power and politicians the center of attention.
While Ryan had harsh words for progressives, he conceded their "vision proved compelling."

(45,851 posts)Indeed he did, to many recs from the usual suspects, none of whom will show up on this thread.
Of course the DUer who posted it didn't say that progressives had a "vision proved compelling" so there is that.

the progressive state offers a sense of security. But its a false sense of security because government cant keep all its promises.
The government can't keep all its promises so it should just do nothing instead. That's all conservatives offer nowadays: Do Nothing.
How about we find a middle ground where the government does the best it can to improve things for ordinary citizens, you know, the job you are paid to do, Mr Ryan.

(20,888 posts)and his whole point of being there is to project "look at me" legislation. He has no clue about the world and the actual issues effecting everyday Americans. He IS the classic Washington power center guy that think politicians are the center of attention. If he doesn't want a job where he is elected to make decisions for people then he should resign. Heck they wasted all week on fake "look at us" hearing declaring the president didn't make tough decisions and left the poor people in Benghazi to fend for themselves. Which world do they want again?

(10,745 posts)Most of us social progressives are anything but arrogant, or condescending. Granted, there ARE a few exceptions(Many Naderites, most climate doomers, some "left Libertarians" etc.), as every group does have its few bad apples(some more than others, though; there are a fair number of nasty conservatives out there), but, regardless of that, it doesn't change the fact that Ryan is not only full of crap when he paints ALL of us with that same brush, but even a massive hypocrite, too.....
