Md. high school picks student with special needs for prom queen

Victoria Hill loves pink.

On prom night Saturday, she had all the essentials:

Prom dress — pink.

Corsage — pink.

Matching sunglasses — pink.

Her escort and best friend Brianna Gebauer’s shoes — also pink.

All that was missing was a matching tiara.

At 20 years old, the Northeast High School senior has overcome a lot in her life. Born with Down syndrome, Hill has survived leukemia, and suffered a stroke at 17 that left her right hand paralyzed.

For all her accomplishments, her classmates elected her prom queen Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, honoring her hard work and enduring nature.

Good job Northeast High School!

My daughter and her friends got together to vote for a sweet girl for homecoming queen who had intellectual disabilities. The drama teacher even bought her a new dress for the occasion. However, she was disqualified because someone in charge decided that her required essay was inadequate.

I'd say it was the compassion level of the person that disqualified her.
