Do you get junk faxes? Submit them to the FCC. They're paying attention.

We used to get them all the time, especially for "four day and three night vacations in Orlando." I sent every one of them to the FCC.

Start at the complaint site and click on the junk fax link. I fill out the online form. That generates a cover sheet. I then fax the junk faxes to the FCC.

Weeks later you'll get an auto-acknowledgement. You'll think that they aren't paying attention and that you've wasted your time. You haven't. Things move slowly, but they do move. Don't expect instant gratification.

The fine is something like $11,000 per junk fax. The FCC will never collect, but the judgment is in place.

Please let me know if you need any help. Best wishes.

Then I started filing an FCC complaint for every single one, filing the complaint online and forwarding the junk fax to the FCC. Now weeks go by without me getting any junk faxes.

I just wish that the FCC was as effective against calls from Cardholder Services.

The Federal Trade Commission maintains the do-not-call list. I signed up for it as fast as I could. Heather from card services calls incessantly nonetheless. The last time that happened, I managed to tie up the caller for as long as I could. He finally told me I was giving him a hard time, and he hung up.

I will attend any public hanging of the people behind that. Mmmmmm, popcorn.

Robocaller Banned From Telemarketing in Settlement with FTC

Robocaller Banned From Telemarketing in Settlement with FTC

The architect of an operation that allegedly distributed illegal robocalls offering credit card interest rate reduction programs, extended automobile warranties, and home security systems, is banned from telemarketing under a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC settlement against Roy M. Cox, Jr., is part of the FTC’s ongoing efforts to stop illegal robocalls. In December 2011, the FTC charged Cox and several related companies with illegally failing to transmit their name or their clients’ names on consumers’ caller ID displays when making their telemarketing calls, using generic names instead, such as “CARD SERVICES,” “CREDIT SERVICES,” or “PRIVATE OFFICE.” The FTC also alleged that they knew, or consciously avoided knowing, that they called phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, and made pre-recorded sales calls to consumers without their written consent.
