Interesting interpretation of Rmoney's latest comments:
But what is quiver full?
Quiver full is a movement within conservative, fundamentalist Christianity and Mormonism. It also extends to Catholics, as I can attest to from personal experiences. In a nutshell, the idea is to have as many children as possible in order for them to be arrows in a quiver for the army of God, often without regard for the health of the mother. It is a very patriarchal ideology in which sons are viewed as future soldiers for Christ and daughters are future bearers of more white, Christian babies to continue the cycle.
While religious and racial motivations for the quiver full movement arent usually publicly acknowledged by its adherents, behind closed doors theyre more likely to admit they believe that white Christians are being outgrown by other races and/or religions.

(7,759 posts)with a "quiver full" of kids. Remember Mitt, you and those like you have ruined the promise of a secure job, reasonable home mortgages, decent schools, respect for learning, tolerance of lifestyle choices, affordable education and healthcare, and a secure social safety net for elderly parents.....sooo, a quiver full of kids is out of the question.

(53,661 posts)Large families can be very prosperous if they all work and bring in income and live in large houses or nearby. That's a fact that many have not been exposed to, but I've seen it.
Their emotional and financial needs are met by each other and they really don't give a damn about the rest of society, or the law most of us think of as giving an equal playing field. They spread out into the world to gain more wealth and don't need the protection of anyone else. Ideally speaking, that is.
I know people whose annual holiday dinners are set for a hundred people. All of the same heritage, an economic force. Most of us don't have that, it's a tradition in some religions.
Anyway.

(10,572 posts)yes they have lots of children but what the article is stating = the Quiver full movement - is not part of LDS church or religion.

(53,661 posts)I wasn't even thinking of them, and this is part of several faiths.
What is your point in bringing them up?
Mitt didn't just run to be the president of the Mormons. He got votes from people of other religions, not just LDS.
EDIT: Reviewing the thread since I replied to your question to me, you appear to be over reacting. I have Mormon friends and have never participated in bashing them.
So what is your problem with me?

(10,362 posts)They will undoubtedly become a major political threat in time due to their fecundity. All of the Duggar daughters seem obsessed with the idea of getting married and popping out as many children as possible.
Though they don't seem like bad people on the show, I wonder if they will attempt to impose their beliefs on others through the government. Time will tell.

(90,714 posts)I think we can definitively say that time is over. I wonder what Mitt's parents would think about the road he has decided to travel down.
Regarding Mitt's father George, I know my husband once considered him a viable presidential candidate, despite his being a Republican. (Mr Hekate is not as ideologically-driven as I am.) And he was. Mitt, not so much. His mother ran for office, something she never could have imagined doing if she had a baby every year of her marriage.
Sad.

(10,572 posts)Several errors right up front.
Is Carl Juniors a Catholic restaurant because its owner is a member of the Catholic church? The university is not a Mormon university, it is a private school owned and operated by a member of the Church with no help or affiliation of the church.
I was raised Mormon, my whole life I have never heard of Quiver full. My family is very active in the church and always has been. This is not a Mormon belief or movement. Do Mormons believe in having lots of kids, yes, but because of what is described above as a Quiver full movement.
Imagine, white kids at a private university in the south! The horrors. I'm sure that was Mitts fault as well, he should have informed them he wouldn't speak there unless they enrolled more minorities (that want to attend a private school that runs itself with a emphasis on Mormon beliefs no less). /sarcasm.

As in, the school population is predominantly Mormon, and you yourself noted that the school "runs itself with a emphasis on Mormon beliefs."
Nor did the author say the "Quiver Full" was Mormon doctrine, but rather a "movement within conservative, fundamentalist Christianity and Mormonism." It is quite possible that you were not exposed to this movement as a Mormom, just as many Christians never heard of it.
I am struck by your following sentence:
I assume the word "not" is missing in front of "because." But could you tell me why Mormons believe in having "lots" of kids?

(9,033 posts)the "quiver full" idea--i.e. an army for God, outbreeding the competition--is EXACTLY what they aim for. Not coincidentally, their various Prophets have opposed birth control, and choice for women and teh gays for as long as I can remember. And of course there are still pockets where polygamy is practiced....
Women are brood mares and they are out to be fruitful and out-multiply.
Sorry but it is that simple, notwithstanding my few Mormon friends.

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children[a] of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

(60,212 posts)Half the people commenting in the thread have no fucking clue where the "quiver full" term comes from.
It comes from Psalm 127.
Context, how does it work?
