It's a good thing none of the teachers were packing heat or this could have been a real tragedy.

HALFWAY Two masked men wearing hoodies and wielding handguns burst into the Pine Eagle Charter School in this tiny rural community on Friday. Students were at home for an in-service day, so the gunmen headed into a meeting room full of teachers and opened fire.
Someone figured out in a few seconds that the bullets were not drawing blood because they were blanks and the exercise was a drill, designed to test Pine Eagles preparation for an assault by active shooters who were, in reality, members of the school staff. But those few seconds left everybody plenty scared.
.......
They werent expecting a drill like this, and they were caught by surprise when the two men entered and began firing.
There was some commotion, DeCastro said.

(19,339 posts)about it? They talk about re-evaluating their emergency plans, and that's fine. But what are they doing to reach out to people who need social services and can't get them? People who might have a scary ex-spouse who lost custody and is plotting revenge? Who feel bullied and like they have nowhere to turn? There's a lot that happens before a person picks up a gun and goes on a rampage -- what does this exercise do to ensure no one feels like a rampage is the answer?
