Interesting to consider how adding an adjective to that might change the poll results significantly.

(146,317 posts)generalizations are worthless. Humanity does not exist as an issue to be voted on. There is no single "humanity."
Now, I have wasted enough time on this.

(11,804 posts)That said examining one's own biases is usually a good thing to do. If you genuinely don't have a generalized view of humanity - congrats. But my suspicion is that most people, including Most DUers (and certainly myself) do have a generalized view of humanity which influences how they look at policies and politics.

edit to add - I wish more people would post an answer about their positive or nagative view.

(51,122 posts)And yes, the right-wing/corporatocracy has a hand in keeping people stupid, but all it takes is a little effort to find out that they are being screwed.
Learn. Vote. Or get the fuck out.

(11,804 posts)I guess I don't really understand that; it seems like a question that I can understand. I certainly know what I meant by it, and many posters seem to have understood it as well.

(28,581 posts)Human beings contain greed. Some humans have WAY to much greed in them. They are what makes humanity appear to suck. What they actually do is make being human suck for others.

(21,088 posts)I like some of the things we do, I dislike others. Mostly I see us as just another instance of a complex adaptive system in a universe that's full of them, thanks to the 2nd law of thermodynamics. No blame attaches to anyone or anything.

(4,743 posts)Humans, every single one of us, are inherently selfish, violent, greedy, impositious loathsome bastards. And we can use all that inherent darkness and negativity in quite productive and positive ways, if we use our overlying intelligence. Negative on humanity, positive on people I guess.

(30,481 posts)What you put here is the reality of it. The replies, and the poll, are our individual thoughts on the effect we have on our surroundings. As a whole, humanity has no inherent value with respect to what is being discussed here.

(85 posts)"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."
WE are the "Damn dirty apes" that Charlton Heston spoke of. He was just projecting in the "Planet of the Apes".
What is the most disgusting exhibit at the zoo? The monkey house, because they are over 90% identical to us.

(20,317 posts)But animals nonetheless. I don't expect much more from humanity than I expect from a housecat, so I'm rarely disappointed. When we eventually go extinct, I don't think it will be any great loss for the universe.
