Brick wall collapse kills 70 year old worker

A 70 year old man working on a demolition crew?? No openings at WalMart?

A 70-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident Friday evening in the West Bottoms.

The man was part of a crew demolishing an old building at 1225 W. Eighth St. The Fire Department was dispatched at 6:34 p.m. on what was described as a non-life-threatening structure collapse. Police responded about 7 p.m. on a medical call and found the man dead.

Police and the city dangerous buildings division secured the site. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.

“It was just an accident,” said police Sgt. Jim Schulte. “Sometimes bricks collapse in unpredictable ways.”

Police did not release the dead man’s name Friday night. He is believed to have been an employee of the construction company, police said.
