One more Miranda thread--Who was the reporter who originally brought up the topic?

There was a news conference after suspect #2 was arrested. At the very end a reporter asked whether or not his Miranda rights would be read to him.

I'm wondering who that reporter was and why he asked the question? I would really appreciate any links.

This whole Miranda question is getting to me after being bombarded today with headlines about how the suspect suddenly stopped talking after his rights were recited to him. It doesn't sound right. Just too much of it.

Colbert just did a segment about how "The suspect sang like a canary, until the judge showed up." being a FOXNews talking point today. It seems he saw the same thing I did. Too many repeats of the same message.

I'd really like to know the name of the reporter asking that question at the end of that news conference. I think it may have been with the chief of police (of Boston?).

1. I don't know who the reporter was, but don't think it matters

Question would come up right away. We did not Mirandize the detainees at Gitmo. Apparently we don't like to provide "rights" to terrorists.

Lindsey Graham wanted Dzhokhar to be detained as an enemy combatant and sent to Gitmo. Fox, of course, will make a big deal out of this because they want Obama to appear soft on terror.

Anyway, it would have been one of the first questions asked. Dzhokhar spoke before he was read his rights. After investigators were satisfied with the information he provided, he was read his rights.

3. I'm not so sure in this particular case

I had never heard of a Pubic Safety exemption to Miranda rights before this news conference. Just the question about Miranda rights which seemed a bit odd from some random reporter. I thought reading of those rights was de-facto, automatic. I had never heard of a public safety exemption until right then.

I really would like the name of the reporter because discussion of Miranda rights being read to a criminal suspect was never something that was less than automatic until this crime (as far as I had heard).
