April 21, 2013
FALLS CHURCH, Va. E.L. Konigsburg, an author who twice won one of the top honors for children's literature, has died. She was 83.
Her son Paul Konigsburg says the longtime Florida resident died Friday at a hospital in Falls Church, Va., where she'd been living for the past few years with another son. She had suffered a stroke a week before she died.
She won the John Newbery Medal in 1997 for her book "The View from Saturday" and in 1968 for "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

Ingrid Bergman starred as Mrs. Frankweiler in a 1973 film adaptation of Konigsburg's book called "The Hideaways."

(9,992 posts)1. I LOVED "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" when I was a kid
and had forgotten all about it until today. Will have to see if it's still in print for some young friends who might enjoy it too. (ETA: It is!! : http://www.amazon.com/Mixed-Up-Files-Mrs-Basil-Frankweiler/dp/0689711816)
RIP Ms. Konigsburg.
And thank for the OP and the memories, Hissyspit.

I only found out about the movie when I was an adult and have still never seen it!

Cannot recall when I read it but I remember that I just loved reading it. If it was when it came out then I guess I was 9 or so.

It's a very readable and entertaining book about Eleanor of Aquitaine.
