...............
If anyone wants to know who we are; what America is; how we respond to evil and terror thats it. Selflessly. Compassionately. And unafraid.
Through days that would test even the sturdiest of souls, Bostons spirit remains undaunted. Americas spirit remains undimmed. Our faith in each other, our love for this country, our common creed that cuts across whatever superficial differences we may have thats what makes us strong. Thats why we endure.
In the days to come, we will remain vigilant as a nation. And I have no doubt the city of Boston and its surrounding communities will continue to respond in the same proud and heroic way that they have thus far and their fellow Americans will be right there with them every step of the way. May God bless the people of Boston and the United States of America.

(114,904 posts)this is propaganda, not that it's necessarily bad propaganda but really it's no more than rah rah we're great. of course, it's not factual and I don't think it even holds much truth: the inevitable hate is already in high gear and being spewed- that's America too. As a nation we clearly don't have faith in each other; we're engaged in a "cold" civil war. Our common creed- if ever it truly existed- is frayed into bits.
This is myth making, not the goal of this statement is an ignoble one, but it won't really change reality.

(146,288 posts)at the bombing and the complete cooperation of Bostonians during the search seem to indicate a common purpose on the part of a large number of Americans. We're a contentious population, but capable of working together when necessary.
I'm not seeing a myth here. Maybe you could expand a bit.

(16,350 posts)But there are plenty Americans who don't have faith in each other, who are selfish, mean, and fearful. That's the Fox mantra: 'Selfish, Mean and Fearful.'
Nice sentiment, Mr. President, but sadly so untrue in too many instances. You of all people know that.
