Lindsey Graham and McCain release a joint statement to treat them as enemy combatants. Wow.

Just put out this statement with John McCain about the suspect captured in Boston and whether they should be held as an enemy combatant.

“We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement and intelligence communities.

"It is clear the events we have seen over the past few days in Boston were an attempt to kill American citizens and terrorize a major American city. The accused perpetrators of these acts were not common criminals attempting to profit from a criminal enterprise, but terrorist trying to injure, maim, and kill innocent Americans.

"Now that the suspect is in custody, the last thing we should want is for him to remain silent. It is absolutely vital the suspect be questioned for intelligence gathering purposes. We need to know about any possible future attacks which could take additional American lives. The least of our worries is a criminal trial which will likely be held years from now.

"Under the Law of War we can hold this suspect as a potential enemy combatant not entitled to Miranda warnings or the appointment of counsel. Our goal at this critical juncture should be to gather intelligence and protect our nation from further attacks.

"We remain under threat from radical Islam and we hope the Obama Administration will seriously consider the enemy combatant option.

“We will stand behind the Administration if they decide to hold this suspect as an enemy combatant.”

It is funny, so basically, you are entitled to these rights until we don't want you to be entitled to them.

By getting out in front of this, Gramps and the gang define the argument as one of commitment to the safety of American citizens. If (and I hope when) BHO and DoJ decide that White Hat will be tried as a US citizen, he'll be making a commitment to the rights of American citizens.

In Gramps world, you can't be committed to safety AND rights. My hope is that the administration will figure out a way to help people understand that either/or is the easy way out and both/and is great leadership.

Let's see how this works out in the next couple days.

Lee Boyd Malvo (born February 18, 1985), also known as John Lee Malvo, is a Jamaican-American convicted murderer who, along with John Allen Muhammad, committed murders in connection with the Beltway sniper attacks in the Washington Metropolitan Area over a three-week period in October 2002. Although the pairing's actions were classified as psychopathy attributable to serial killer characteristics by the media, whether or not their psychopathy meets this classification or that of a spree killer is debated by researchers.[1

Were they charged as enemy combatants? McCain and Graham are just looking for face time.

If only they had been trying to turn an honest buck from mass murder, we'd be glad to extend to Mr. Tsarnaev ALL of his civil rights due to him as a US citizen facing serious felony charges.

and remember that the government backed down and he was tried in civilian court.

He was detained as a material witness until June 9, 2002, when President George W. Bush designated him an enemy combatant and, arguing that he was not entitled to trial in civilian courts, had him transferred to a military prison. Padilla was held for three and a half years as an "enemy combatant." He was subjected to what were called enhanced interrogation techniques, regarded as torture by some, including sleep deprivation, shackling and stress positions, the administration of psychotropic drugs, and solitary confinement.[1] After pressure from civil liberties groups, the charge was dropped, and his case was moved to a civilian court.

If the point of terrorism is to cause fear, then the only possible way a terrorist can win is if victims (in this case, the United Stares) act out of fear.

Clearly, the terrorists of the world are tougher than McCain and Graham. These two people are cowards, pure and simple, regardless of what MCain endures 45 years ago.

If McCain and Graham can Make that term stick..Then as "combatants" the accused men fall under Military tribunal law..no Maranda or probable cause ,ETC.(rather than traditional federal law which give many more Rights than Tribunal- then the POSSIBILITY that SOMEHOW OBAMA might GET CREDIT HERE).. hence McCain accomplishes MANY things: he gets attention, he gives CONTROL to the Military, and their interests, the DEFENSE CONTRACTORS whom are Happy to return MONETARY FAVORS via CONTRACTS. with LOBBYING (contributions to his running for office)..AND this all furthers the small group of Republicans AGENDA to Justify RYAN'S(and theirs) BUDGET PROPOSAL that ADDS TWO TRILLION to our MILITARY BUDGET..and THEN say OBAMA can NOT BUDGET..and we MUST PAY OUR DEBT!...ENTER JUSTIFICATION and AGENDA: LETS just GET RID OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE (that will pay for the two TRILLON in Military SPENDING!),,,,,,,,EVERYBODY FED AND HAPPY...BUT NOT THE MILK COW...THE MIDDLE CLASS....WE PAY FOR THIS MONITARILY, AND LOSS OF OUR OLD AGE SECURITY...AND WITH OUR YOUNG SOLDIERS LIVES...NOT THEIR CHILDREN OF COURSE .....OR THEIR OLD AGE SECURITY!
WATCH THESE TWO MEN AND THEIR AGENDA"S CAREFULLY MY FRIENDS..THEY WILL KILL OURWAY OF LIFE AS WE KNOW IT...IF WE LET THEM....YES THE TWO MEN OF WHICH I SPEAK ARE MC CAIN AND GRAHAM..THEY ARE THE REAL "COMBATANTS!".....GREED, MONEY...AND POWER..AT EVERYONE ELSES EXPENSE!!!

He's a naturalized US citizen so the executive order on trial of unlawful alien enemy combatants doesn't apply http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/2007/02/20070214-5.html/. In what war were the brothers participating?

Not to mention Obama's administration already dropped the enemy combatant term http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/13/enemy.combatant/

Obama's administration likely dropped the term because they knew it was unconstitutional and in conflict with our treaties and the Geneva Convention.

No fools like old fools.
