My SiS-N-Law Hates Me NOW

She called this morning complaining about how bad her feet are and that she will need therapy and possibly surgery. She is 65 and a Christian conservative that has now knowledge of why she believes what she believes politically except for the fact that the Pastor of her church is heavily associated with the republican party in So- CAL and preaches a political conservative bias from the pulpit.

She has only basic medical insurance that has a very high deductible that she cant afford so I asked her how in the hell is she going afford to have a surgical procedure...she said she has started the process with the stater of California and has asked medicaid......

Well I might have been a bit insensitive but I said I thought you were for lesser government?? Doesn't your party believe in lesser to no government involvement in peoples life,?

She was huffing and all she said was I am going to take advantage of everything I can until Mitt becomes President... I just told her I was going to shake the brains out of my head.

She's eligible for Medicare at sixty five. It has a hundred dollar deductible and pays 80% of her medical costs and if she buys a supplemental insurance like from AARP they cover the 20%. The supplemental is probably a lot less than she pays now. If she can't afford a supplemental then she's eligible for Medical to pick up the copays, however, not too many doctors like to accept Medical. I haven't run into a doctor that won't accept Medicare with a supplemental yet here in California.

As for what she thinks Mitt will do for her, she just has rocks in her head and no doctor can fix that.

An Atlas Shrugged reading conservative loudmouth. Games the system for all its worth then complains of big government. Bashes Obama at every chance, then brags about how he took his "cash for clunkers" money and bought an import, as he put it "To pork GM and Chysler" because they got bailout money. Vile.

My friend is part of a conservative family and I asked his grandmother through him as the mediator what if Obama didn't bail out Ford. She said it would have been better. When I explained that it's a historical company and a testament of American greatness, trying to appeal to some sort of American pride--she said then it shouldn't have reached it's point of going bankrupt and would deserve whatever it got. When I asked what about the hundreds of thousands of people that would be out of work if those companies went down she said that it's their problem. I could not believe it. On a personal level she's a fun lady. On a political level she's a cold heartless bitch who has no understanding of being an American or protecting this nation.

I know one person who is on disability for HIV and pretty much all his bills are paid by the government. Hates democrats and thinks socialism is destroying America.

Another person I know has 3 kids, has subsidized HUD housing and food stamps, but thinks Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity hung the moon and votes republican.

Meanwhile, I have HIV (advanced) and heart disease and still work a 40 hour week, get no government assistance, and am the breadwinner in my home who is looked at as the bleeding heart commie liberal who hates America.

I know exactly that feeling of shaking your head in utter disbelief.

I went to visit my godfather as he was literally on his death bed (died the next weekend from pancreatic cancer). This was just after the 2010 elections where the republicans won and she commented to my father how glad she was that "our side had won".

I hear this crap all the time in rural Upstate NY. Point out to people the fact that a higher percentage of Upstate NY is on the dole and they don't care. They are OK with "our people" getting help they just don't want "those people" getting help.

It's what really gets me when all the idiots running connect public assistance with "black people". They openly without thinking say "I'm not interested in helping Black People". You will never hear a repub say "I'm not interested in helping poor white rural people" will you?

I see it among my conservative family members. A new government program comes out, and the first thing they do is see how much they can milk it, including ways they can be less than honest about milking it. The second thing they do is piss and moan about how the program is socialism. Just odd and hypocritical.

Most of the right wing lunatics I know would vote for someone who would completely end Medicaid and take the chance of dying themselves from lack of medical care if that would prevent "those other people"' from receiving the same benefit.

But if it is available they will be like your SiS-N-Law and be the first one looking for the government to help them.

Apparently based on my work history which is less than 10 yrs I am not eligible for preminum free Medicare. I don't know what that means exactly,
but I did receive a letter saying as much

Also not eligible to collect Social Security on my own because I am five credits short.

It costs $100 month (or more for higher income people) that they deduct from social security check

But you are correct that if one doesn't have enough work credits either on our own work history or spouse's (or ex-spouse if married 10+ years) then we don't qualify for social security or Medicare.
Rather if we are very low income with almost no assets we could get SSI (supplemental security income) and Medicaid

Logic has no part in this.

I often wonder if these cretins who are applauding and cheering letting people die for want of medical care ever wind up in that very situation themselves. And what do they think, then?

But I guess thinking doesn't enter into it. They'll cling to their petty, grasping world-view until they draw their last breath. Unbelievable!

Of the person I referred to in the thread above. You see, we are union as well and I ask how can he square in his mind that the politics he practices are in absolute opposition to our employment situation, being represented by a union and having a legally enforce-able contract. To him, he thinks this works out the best for him personally; basically the best of both worlds in, in his mind. It sounds crazy but from his Ayn Randian 'Atlas Shrugged' point of view, it all makes sense. He's just looking out for #1 and so should everybody else, and if his opposition doesn't, he's that much further ahead.

We have a few who are like that, though I don't know that they are ideologues to the degree he is, that are quite lazy, let others do the hard work and only do what they have to do unless they are forced to, groan grumble and complain, then count every nickel and demand the absolute top dollar for it - Yet: when they are in a situation where they are the "employer" like where they hire a contractor to work on their home, property etc, they are cheap bastards that DEMAND stellar work for the most rock bottom pay. They are assholes. I have to deal with them civilly, but I really do hate them.
