One, they don't know if the suspect has a scanner app and is listening.

Two, and more importantly, they don't want guys to leave their mikes open which fills up the channel with unnecessary noise and makes vital communications more difficult to hear.

It might even be one, but someone with more experience with the things would have to confirm that.

If someone's got their mic on, maybe not even noticing it because a button might be pressed up against something, it fouls up a lot of communications.

If you listen to when whoever's in command there starts repeating that, you can hear the audio quality going down the toilet because of it.

If someone's hitting a button by accident over and over a message going over the radio like "everyone (loud skree of feedback) your weapons" or "we need you to move (loud skree of feedback) right now" could get ugly very quick.

and
should the perp have access to hearing it, they could give something away and give perp strategical advantage
