At 11th hour, vulnerable GOP members back insider-trading bill

http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/1007-other/208735-at-11th-hour-vulnerable-gop-members-back-insider-trading-bill

A slew of politically vulnerable Republican lawmakers are backing a popular insider-trading bill days before it will be debated on the House floor.

Members have been racing to back the bill since a “60 Minutes” report in November highlighted members who have allegedly invested in stocks based on their knowledge of the inner workings of Congress.

Some members have been quicker to back the bill than others.

(snip)
The bill has so much momentum that lawmakers who have waited to formally co-sponsor the bill are now feeling pressure to back it.

That may have been the very best thing Obama said at the SOTU. He sorta painted the GOOPers right into a corner. Too cool!

Obama 1, GOOPers 0

already knew about most of it, he is an insider after all, and only rides now on the exposure's coattails. He's had ample time to investigate this stuff. I'm sorry, but the work at getting it exposed was 60 Minutes, not Obama, he just speechified about it.

it would not now be about to succeed in Congress. 60 Minutes doesn't ask Congress for bills. The President does.

They don't want to give up their criminal enterprise, now matter how bad it is or how bad it looks. They want secrecy and cover to use the insider information.

Some men appear to be born more equal than others, under the law. We should vote in a regular caste system like India to avoid all this confusion.

Since we know Cantor/Boehner won't promote anything like this, maybe the Senate ought to push more of this type of legislation on the House?
