Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIF a terrorist was holding me hostage in my house and when the police came to knock on my door...
.... and no one came to the door - I would want the police to kick the door down to see if anyone was in the house!
Just my opinion.

(14,531 posts)Who would NOT want that under the circumstances you just described? This place is getting weirder by the minute.

(65,616 posts)My point is who WOULDN'T want the police to kick in their door if they were being held hostage!?!?! Does that really need to be an OP?
Renew Deal
(81,859 posts)But that's not what the OP said. They said that anyone who doesn't answer should have their door kicked down. That's not very American.
Rex
(65,616 posts)in which he hoped the police would break down the door and rescue him. That is very subjective, so I agree with him. If he wants to do another, 'if I was, then'...then I will reply based on the context.

(318 posts)And out of these 500, only one is being held hostage.
Wouldn't that mean 499 doors kicked down for no good reason?

(65,616 posts)You defined your OP with a narrow approach that can only have one of two conclusions. ALL people would want to be rescued.
Despite this, your argument is not valid.
Rex
(65,616 posts)And he KNOWS that the terrorists have him hostage. In that ONE instance, yes I too would want the cops to break down my door and rescue me.
Maybe too if my house is on fire.
NOW, if they have no good reason to break down the door(s) - then I agree with you - they have no right to.

Seems this is just the image these gun nuts have or that was imprinted on them by the NRA and the gun advocates. Government/military coming to their door. These brave men that are doing these door-to-door searches are taking a risk.
They don't know if someone on the other side - either the suspect or a paranoid gun nut might open fire on them.
