"People are now glued to their little screens because they are terrified"

This from the guest commentator on NPR at 12:50, EDT.

He's nattering on about people hunkered down in their homes in Boston because they are scared to death.

I suspect the people in Boston are hunkered down to clear the way for the police to arrest the bomber, not because they are afraid!

people are afraid!

What about the people who crowded around the courthouse earlier in the week when CNN reported an arrest? Not much fear there!

No one on the streets makes it infinitely easier to spot any movement by the suspect.

It's just common sense. People here get that.

He thinks we're terrified? Folks who know Bostonians wouldn't even broach that word. If he could recognize "smart" he'd already be a different person than the one he shows.

I doubt that they are "hunkered down in fear". I'll bet they are in more of an "ass-kickin'" mood.

You are quite correct. We are non hunkered down in fear. LEO and government officials have asked people not to move about until the situation is completely understood and controlled.

I have no problem staying out of their way and letting them do their thing.

I will certainly return to my normal life asap. Fear is not going to prevent me from fully experiencing and enjoying my life and I thoroughly expect the majority of my fellow Bostonians feel the same.

hunkered down ? I doubt it.

Cops trying to do a job in a chaotic situation say "hey folks, how about you stay off the streets for a while today. It would make our jobs of protecting you a lot easier today given the situation we're dealing with and it will probably help keep you safer too. We're not going to do anything to you if you don't stay inside but we're just sayin', it would make our jobs a lot easier".

So what happens ? I whole bunch of people say "ok, let's hang out inside while the cops do this real tough dangerous job out there today. I have the right to go outside if I want to but hey, wtf, stayin' inside for a while will make this a lot easier for the cops. How 'bout that...Jimmy...can you pass me another beer".

yeah - hunkered down. right.

And it's also really easy to talk smack about a situation when you're a nice, safe, far distance from the danger. Even if people are afraid, so what? It's not like it happens everyday when someone is running around loose while possibly wearing an explosive vest. It would be foolish to take the chance of coming in contact with this "bomber" if it's not necessary to go out.

I don't understand how berating people living in the area of a loose and dangerous person is helpful. That person saying that is a boob.
